Generic Answer:
Read your instruction manual about "Lost Password". The unit will have to be sent back to the factory service for re-activation. With some models they allow re-activation if the unit is re-started at its home position. If you did not program a home position, then you have no chance to unlock it yourself.

With many of these devices, if the wrong password is used more than a specific amount of times, the unit is permanently locked out.

When you send back the GPS for factory service, you must include a photocopy of the proof of purchase. They may also want some ID information to verify that you are the actual owner. For this they will call you.

At the factory service, they will have to re-load the original factory firmware to unlock the device. There is no master password. Many of the manufactures will charge for their technician's time to do the work. The client will also be expected to pay the shipping costs.

Suggestion:
We tell our clients to NOT use a password. If the device gets lost it really does not matter, because it is lost anyways and it may never come back. People tend to forget their password and usually end up locking out the device anyways.

With a GPS, for personal security program the home position to be at least a few hundred yards from where you actualy live, or do not put in an address number or any name of any person. This way if the GPS is stolen, the thief will not be able to know where you live, or who you are.

Comment:
I have seen many locked out mobile phones, GPS's, car radios, laptops, and much more! Most of the time, the manufactures were charging fees to unlock the device. Sometimes the unlocking cost was fairly expensive.

We tell people to not use the lock feature, unless they are very critical to the content they have in their device.

Referring to the S50, have a look at page 124 of the manual (The manual is on the NAVDESK 2008 DVD that came with the GPS) Section: "What if I forget my PIN for my Navman?". Using the NAVDESK 2008 software when connected to the internet.

Tools / PIN Security
1. In the User Name and Password fields, enter the username and password that you entered when registering
online.
2. In the PIN field, enter a new PIN you want to assign to your Navman.
Note: Your PIN must be between three and eight numerical digits.
3. Click OK.
The PIN for your Navman has been set.
