I have just purchased a new pc with vista 64 bit and cant get any drivers for the printer. Sharp have none and there is no news on if there will ever be a driver for vista 64. I have tried making the old pc running xp a print server but still have the same issue. Is there a way round getting my printer to work with vista 64 or is it a case of a new machine.
Using XP as a print server requires finding a compatible driver. You can set it up by configuring the new printer as some other printer and creating a new port, using the address //myoldxpname/myprinter name and sharing your printer on the xp. Problem is, I tried a couple of different drivers, such as an HP 4P and a different sharp copier. The sharp produced garbage. The HP driver printed the page, but in huge fonts. I don't have the time or patience to keep trying different printers. It was nice while it lasted...

There are NO Win 7 drivers, and I suspect there never will be. Sharp are NOT writing a Win 7 driver, for this "Old", according to Win 7, hardware. You may be able to install a, XP SP2 or Vista 64 bit driver, and setup in Compatibility Mode, however if you do,do this EVERY-TIME you Bootup you MUST press F8, and select to Disable "Digital Signature Checking" at bottom of list. You need to do that at install time too.
This works on MOST sharp AL series copiers.
Press these keys in sequence:
Clear → Density select → Clear→ Density select
display should go blank. Then enter:
24 as if you were making 24 copies then press print
then enter 7 as if you were making 7 copies then press print
if successful you should see flashing 000
turn machine off then on again and the drum light should be gone.
Currently Sharp does not have any specific drivers for this model that are compatible with vista. But if you go to www.sharpusa.com under customer support, product downloads. You might try using the AR-M160 drivers. They are practically the same machine. For the model choose model not listed and manually type in AR-M160.
