Re: AF assist lamp on 3100z?

1. No AF-assist for this camera;
2. It cannot use micro-drives because it only support Type I Compact Flash.

Re: AF assist lamp on 3100z?

Never had a problem with low light focus on 3100z, also I think Epson assumes you might be using larger lense barrels and thus a mounted AF assist would be useless. IMHO AF assist is not a feature I would really seek in buying a camera, at best all you are going to acheive is a very narrow center focus why would you really want microdrive??? I have not used one, but the reliabilty of a of CF has to be much higher and able to stand more abuse than a microdrive.

The 3000Z does not have AF assist, and I assume the 3100Z does not have one either.

Why is my led screen blurry in low light before I take a picture?

It sounds like your camera settings have the( AF Assist Beam) on Off? That is the Amber Color light you see when you half press the shutter button. If that setting is set to OFF, then the camera can not focus in low light giving you blurry pictures as it can not see any light to assist the camera on focusing. If you turn on the (AF Assist Beam) to on, they when you press the shutter button half ways down you will see a Reddish/ Amber light, that light helps the camera find a focus point, giving you a slightly better low light photo.

My Nikon p80 has difficulty focusing in low light. Also, the white balance is difficult to control and most low light photos are too yellow.

Seems to be interesting.
For low light focusing problem here is the solution which works with any digital camera.
I have observed that P80 has a slow focusing symptom. If you are in TELE range that is lens out. Then you will be hitting this issue very frequently.
Check if you are not restricting that red light bulb from throwing the light on your subject. This light is to assist the camera to focus.
Try doing this. Illuminate the object with a small/capable torch. Sometimes AF assist lamp is not doing the job.
another solution is focus in small steps. move lens out a little half press the focus/snap button. repeat this till you get the desired frame. This somehow helps camera to focus difficult objects.

White Balance:
Nikon P80 has good white balance functionality. But if you do not get what you want you need to set the WB manually. Here is the procedure to set white balance manually.
Procedure:
You need to select the preset manual for this procedure. Keep a white colored object with you always. This should be of size of a playing card at minimum.
when you will select the manual white balance preset. it will show you the measure option. Keep your white subject in front of the lens and press measure such that the camera view is filled with that white object's view.
Now you are ready to go. Your Camera will take the pictures just right.

Auto focus does not work. no af assist lamp camera is DMC-FZ7

you can use a laser pointer or mini flashlight point at the subject to replace the AF assist lamp. When the AF locked, turn the light off then press the shutter.

MY CAMERA (CANON 1000D) TAKES BEAUTIFUL DAYTIME PHOTO'S BUT CAN'T SEEM TO FOCUS ON A SUBJECT IN LOW LIGHT & AS A RESULT WONT TAKE THE SHOT. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO TAKE LOW LIGHT / NIGHT TIME SHOTS ?...

Focusing in low light can be difficult for the autofocus system and sometimes you will need to use the manual focus, you can select the magnified image and see if that helps
See the online manual - page98 refers to how to magnify the image - using the magnify button - changes between 5X 10X and full screen
To help the camera autofocus there is an assist beam - this takes the form of flashes from flash to help the AF system focus - make sure it is ON - there is a custom function full details on Page 157 C.Fn III: Auto focus/Drive 6 AF-assist beam firing
FYIThe support site for this camera is here, including online manual http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010629.asp

Low light no focus

The Nikon D100 custom settings option 22 - AF Assist, controls the AF Assist light.
Check if this has been turned off.

This option controls whether the auto-focus assist light comes on in low light to help autofocus
latch onto the subject.

My 300D wont lock on a point in its AF setting

If you are unable to focus in broad daylight and it just hunts through the whole focus range without locking, then it sounds like a problem with sub-mirror pin (also called the second mirror pin). My 300D just had this problem and I had to send to service to get fixed. I sent to http://www.keh.com/ as they were at least $50 cheaper than going straight to Canon. Just got it backed and it works like a charm again.

3100Z Focus Problems

re you sure the out of focus condition is due to the actually focus or do to motion blur? I think the 3100Z in auto and flash on will set the shutter speed fairly low like 1/30th of a second for wide angle and 1/90th for full telephoto. This may not be fast enough to avoid motion blur. I would suggest using manual mode and shutter priority and set the shutter speed to 1/100th of a second. This won't effect the flash output but will reduce the amount of ambient light being captured which could cause long range shots to become darker in the distance. Name of the game, don't be afraid to take it off auto mode and experiment with manual setting.

Focus on a particular subject

Try the FOCUS LOCK feature. This feature allows you to focus on a subject roughly the same distance away from you, then re-compose your picture without losing that focus. Open the lens barrier fully. Look through the viewfinder at the AF Target Mark (the 4 lines in the center of the viewfinder). Position the AF Target Mark on a subject roughly the same distance away from you. Press the shutter button halfway until the green lamp lights. While keeping the shutter button pressed halfway, re-compose your picture, then press the shutter fully.

I assume you're taking the mickey out of Fuji here. But just in case you're not it is obviously meant to describe the AF assist lamps range in low light conditions.
