Dell Optiplex GX260 .....Windows OS wont load

I am trying to repair a computer given to me. This is a Dell Optiplex GX260,(BM2GZ21).

The light on the mother board is on, also the a,b,c,d lights on the back of the tower are (a,b,c,)3 green and (d) is yellow. There are 2 beeps when the tower is turned on, the DOS/Bios window loads, but windows operating system does not, then it gives a error message saying (A disk read error occured). I can access the set up menu(F2) and Boot menu(F12).

You have to repair windows using the installation CD
follow this link: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspx

I f that doesn't help, then your hard disk is corrupt(damaged) consider buying a new hard drive and reinstall windows on the new drive

Well i have a dell optiplex gx260 desktop pc for witch i recently installed windows 7.now i have prolem in finding windows 7 audio drivers

Unfortunately, Dell doesn't support Windows 7 for the OptiPlex GX260. You could try an older driver and see if it will work, but you can't get any Windows 7 drivers for the GX260. (At least not yet.)

You can view a list of Dell computers that are Windows 7-compatible here:

Optiplex GXS 240 Dell. After 6 years of hard work

Hi,
Run the onboard diagnostics on the hardrives and system memory before doing the OS reinstall.
Instructions on how to run diagnostics are given below

Another workaround you can try is disconnect one hardrive from the computer and install the OS and then put the additional harddrive

Got a dell optiplex GX260 which keep on restarting.

Check your fan oover the processor and make sure its spinning. Next check if the heatsink is dirty then and clean it if necessary. If you do not feel comfortable opening your computer up, take it to a repair shop and explain the problem to them.
