Question about Epson PhotoPC 3000Z Digital Camera

1 Answer

Purple Tint Sky

I noticed purple sky with 3000Z. I really like this camera and the features, but it seems as though I have to correct each picture with softyware. My friends Olympus 2000Z look great right out of the camera. The purple sky being the most severe. In fact in some photos I had purple circles in the sky. When I correct with software the pictures do look very gook. Is this common or am I doing something wrong ? All shots taken in normal and landscape modes.

Auto white balance should work OK. I was thinking maybe you had accidentally switched it to the Fixed setting. Hmm. You said you were using Normal and Landscape modes. Just to see how it works, I would suggest switching from Program mode to Full Auto. See if that fixes your purple skies. I don't know why it would, but it is something to try

Remove the purple rim around my pictures?

That is known as 'purple fringing' and is usually the result of the sensors and/or the lenses in your camera not being able to handle higher contrasts or over-exposure. Scientifically it has more to do with the how the camera sensor responds to the available light spectrum. (see: Have you notice it is generally more pronounced where a very bright (white) area meets a high contrast (black) edge (like a bright sky behind a dark or shadowed object)? Best way to avoid is to be careful about the relative light levels exposures when framing the shot---or using a UV filter. There are many photo editing programs which can help eliminate purple fringing in post production. Have a read through:

Grey spot on photo

NOISY PICTURES One of the major difference between a consumer digital camera and a digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) is that the former produces images with a lot of noise when using high ISOs and long exposure times, and the latter is practically noise-free (though high ISO performance varies depending on camera manufacturer and model). Noise is apparent by the presence of color speckles where there should be none. For example, instead of a blue sky, you notice faint pink, purple and other color speckles amongst the otherwise blue sky.

We might still call it blue. Color is refracted light.

When taking pictures there is a color displacement of some sort. Leaves like bright purples and pinks shadowing images. It is worse in lighted areas, the more sunlight/bulb light the worse the coloring...

The term for an out-of-focus purple "ghost" image on a photograph is "Purple Fringing."

This is fairly common in Digital Photography.

In order to minimize instances of purple fringing you may incorporate the following:
Avoid shooting with big aperture (Small /f number) in high contrast compositions.
Avoid overexposing highlights (e.g. bright sky behind dark objects).
Shoot with a UV/Skylight Filter or a Circular Polarizing Filter. These protect the lens and also help to Get bluer skies and cut glare off reflective objects.
You could also use Post-processing to remove purple fringing by scaling the fringed color channel. This can be done in an image editor like Photoshop.

These suggestions will help in minimizing the instances of color displacement for you.
I will look forward to your feedback and positive rating.

Purple tinted on preview window?

Canon fixed it without charge (outside the warranty). It's a well-known CCD malfunction that occurs mostly if the camera is used in hot or humid climate. Canon tech support was very helpful (by email) and even paid postage both ways.

Check all your connections, and if your running a Sky/Freeview box, try plugging an aerial into the TV and see if its the plug in box. I had a similar problem and discovered that the Sky box had a fault.

Purple Pictures

This is a CCD sensor problem and should be replaced. Try to have it done free of charge by Sony even though your camera is an old model because CCD sensor should last 10 years +.
