All Dell components have a 5 digit part number. Look for CN-0xxxxx- on a white label on the motherboard. The five x's are alpha-numeric characters that are the exact part number such as 5w610.

The 1100 motherboard includes a video daughterboard, the 1150 has integrated video, the LCD video cable from the LCD display are different in size and shape but the connector will fit. Personally, I don't advise replacing the 1100 motherboard with an 1150.

Another difference between the 1100 and 1150 motherboard is the DC power jack which requires a different AC Power Adapter.

There is no exact name for this main board. All you need to know when replacing the main board is that the Insp 1100 and The Insp 1150 main board will fit. If you are going to change out the board, I suggest going with the board from an Inspiron 1150, it is an upgrade for the Insp 1100, and has built in wireless.

I have a gateway notebook model #mt6451 i turned it off last night and i turned it back on this morning and the screen wasnt coming on the power button lite up cd made noise fan working and hard drive...

First thing to try:

Remove your battery and charger, hold the power button for 10-15 seconds. Plug the laptop into mains ONLY leaving the battery out. Try powering it up.

If the laptop powers up ok, simply shut-down and re-insert your battery. You should find your laptop will continue to work fine for the foreseeable future, this kind of issue is a common occurrence on laptops.

If not I would then try re-seating your RAM/Memory, if that doesn't work and you have more than one stick remove one at a time to see if either one is causing the problem. If you have only one stick find a replacement to test your laptop with.

If you are still finding the same issues with the laptop I would then proceed to reseat all components of laptop, including the CPU.

If the issues continue I would then remove all non-essential components one by one, each time attempting to power the laptop. At worst you will eventually end up with just the mainboard, CPU, RAM and an external monitor plugged into the mainboard, that still doesn't function correctly. I would then conclude your mainboard needs replacing.

Lenovo g410 not charging

This is going to be one of three things either your power supply is not giving out enough voltage to charge the battery, have you tried another psu?
If its not the psu then it could be the dc socket being loose on the mainboard or the fuse which controls the charging section has blown which means you need a replacement mainboard. Usually its either the charger or dc socket

Toshiba p205d s8802 laptop the power button comes on and i can hear the fan turning , but it wont boot .

Power is coming in the machine means the power supply is ok.
Tap num lock and if it is responding then surely this is the issue with RAM.
Refix the battery once and then turn it on.
If then also it is not working issue might be with the mainboard.,

When i turn the laptop on it just beeps several times and the battery and the circle with a Z looking thing light up.

Ok, the tilted-Z-in-a-circle represents the power indicator. As far as I know the power indicator is orange while the battery level is below 60% and charging, and green above 60% and charging. When the batery level is above 90% the power indicator starts blinking (green blinking) to let you know that the battery is almost fully charged.

Please try to turn on the laptop without the battery attached and secondly without the power cable attached. Does the laptop still beeps?

If yes, this could indicate a failure of the battery / charger / mainboard charging bridge.

First, if the battery starts to fail, you should be able to start the laptop by removing the battery. If this helps then you have to buy a replacement one.

Second, check the power the charger outputs (by using a voltmeter) and compare the voltmeter reading with the power adapter specifications (read the sticker on the power adapter). If there is a difference of more than 1-2 volts then it means that the power adapter is toasted. Buy a new one and everything should be ok.

Third - if the mainboard charging bridge has problems - this can only be investigated by a laptop service specialist. It can be fixed either by replacing a passive part or by replacing the motherboard.

The beeps you hear can be a code by which the laptop tries to tell what the problem is.Please describe the beeps and the timeout between them(e.g.: beeeeeep-------------bep---bep---bep -- this is the signal that the VGA adapter is no longer recognized).

Please rate this solution to keep the good answers comming!

Good luck with your tabled PC !

I have my deceased cousins laptop and it keeps

OK, you have a bios password on that system.....doesn't matter what OS at this point and there is no back door secret way to get through. We are going to try and reset the CMOS, this will hopefully drop the BIOS password. First off power down and remove the main battery. Now push the power button for 10 seconds to discharge all the capacitors on tha mainboard. Now, put the laptop on its lid so you can work on the bottom access door of the case. This problem is listed uner an HP DV6000 series notebook so I'm guessing that is what we are working on. You can tell for sure by reading the label on the bottom of the case, wher is says HP model number. Anyway, if it is different send another note and we'll correct the procedure because all laptops are different in how they are constructed.

Now for the procedure....we are going to remove the RTC battery from the motherboard and leave it off the mainboard for about 15 minutes and then re-install it. Now with your laptop onits back, look for the access door that is in tha middle of the case. It is wide and has two screws holding it in place. When you loosen the scres they should stay on the door and once loose, pry the door off gently. Inside this compartment you will see the memory modules, the wireless card with two to three antennae leads and over to the side a small circular battery wrapped in plastic with a two wire plug on the end. pul this plug off the socket and leave it off. Once the time has expired, plug the RTC battery back onto its socket and put the access cover back on. Now leave the main battery out of the laptop and just hook up the ac adapter. Power the laptop up just with AC power. You may still see the text box for a password come up but just hit enter and see if it lets you in. If it does, go to the BIOS screen and reset the date and time and change the bios password to something you know and will remember. Once that is done, power off and reseat the battery....then reboot.

If the above does not work out for you, send a message and we will try another tactic.

My A21m power button will not turn on laptop. Button just clicks and system will not turn on. Battery and power cord ok.

Check if it is plugged in. If not, you may have a problem either with your mainboard, battery, or power button. Try replacing your battery. If it still doesn't power on, contact lenovo support for a mainboard replacement. The battery should be roughly $100, and the mainboard roughly $200. Since your computer is quite old, the costs of repairing it may exceed the cost of a new computer.

V25 laptop will not turn on from battery power

The problem associated with Laptop not being able to power from the Battery, even if the Battery is new, can be attribute to the mainboard charging Electronic. The charging electronic in Mainboard is perharps defect. If your laptop still have warranty, this is the best time to change the mainboard. If not, seek for a qualified technician to check the PC, run the system, make Bios Update, and have the mainboard checked.

Acer aspire 4920 charging mechanism failed

Most laptops, as in 99%, have one board and everything is on it. They don't really have a power supply since the AC adpater provides DC voltage already. There is just a voltage divider that take the incomming voltage and changes it to the various voltages the machine needs. The charging mechanism is also on the mainboard. I've very seldom seen a seperate power or charging board in a laptop. Unfortunately since you've already replaced the battery and the ac adapter and since the adapter is powering the laptop then there is definitely a problem with the charging circuitry on the mainboard. This isn't something one can repair unless you start changing micro components and ICs on the board which isn't recommended. Looks like a new mainboard or a new laptop is in your future if you want it to run off battery.

Another option is to get an external battery that mimics your ac adapter but that wouldn't give you a very long run time compared to the internal battery.

Don't forget to rate my solution in your premium thread as FixYa if you think I helped solve your problem. Thanks.
