Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Machine constantly empties

I have 'inherited' a used Mistral washing machine with no instructions! Help please. It seems that whichever way I set it it simply fills with water whilst emptying at the same time. I guess it has something to do with 'overflow rinse' but even when I set it without any light in this window - it still seems to constantly empty. It does agitate at the same time but if I switch it all off while the drum is full of water it empties .....

Anybody know the solution or where I could get an instruction manual that might help. Any assistance would be very much appreicated. Sue

Thanks for the advice. The washer will spin and I have discovered that if I hold the draining pipe up in the air the washer functions 'normally' and only empties at the appropriate time. It would seem that the previous occupant somehow managed to use it with the drain hose positioned far too low. We are going to put a taller plastic drainpipe in, thus elevating the hose, and see if that works. Many thanks for the suggestions though .....

It pumps, but doesn't spin If your washer pumps out the water but doesn't spin, check these:

* The lid switch may be defective. If it is, the washing machine doesn't spin. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

* The motor coupler may be broken. Many Whirlpool®-manufactured washers use a small, relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. You may need to replace it.

* A belt may be broken. Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer. (Some washing machine belts are designed with special characteristics not found in automotive belts.)

* The clutch may be worn. If your washer is a GE, it may use a clutch to come up to the proper spin speed. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the unit from spinning well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it. For this job, you probably want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician.

* The drive motor may be defective. Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor.

Most washers will only pump water a limited distance from he washer unless you get a 2 speed and it's pump is strong enough!
For example I have customers who need their washer to pump the water from their washer up 7 feet from their basement that is under ground and the drain is high on the wall at ground level!
I sell them the Speed Queen 2 speed washer!
the best warranty in the industry and they start from only $549 each!!! And they use only 36 gallons of water, wash 8 loads a week for 25 years!
And wash in only 35 minutes and dry in half the time form all the others! which means half the electric or gas bill!!!
    A REAL NO BRAINIER!
But people buy what they see on TV and in the ad's rather than the machine in the laundromat's around the world!

    peace,
