Question about Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC

Bad Pixel

One of our new Axim's (the 400mhz) came with a dead pixel - right in the middle of the top portion of the screen. Sadly, it is right in the center of the blue "Start" bar and very noticable. Is this a valid issue for screen replacement?

Re: Bad Pixel

I think the minimum "bad pixel" qualification for manufacturers (for LDC monitors) do not apply here. Mainly because 1 bad pixel in a PDA screen is much more noticeable than a 15inch monitor. In any case, even if Dell doesn't get reimbursed for the bad display, you should have no problems getting a replacement from Dell.

Re: Bad Pixel

If I can remember correctly... There is a percentage of cold pixels that are required before a manufacturer will resupply you with a new LCD display... I have no idea if this counts for PDA's or not, but I do know that it applies to Monitors.

Re: Bad Pixel

Of course it is. A defective product is a defective product. The specs say 240 X 320 which is 76800 pixels but they onle sent you 76799 that work!! lol

All I get from my Axim x30 is the align screen. When I tap all the crosses it just stays in the middle but I dont get the home screen, not even after a soft reset.

take a credit card or bisiness card and slide it in between the edges of the screen gently this should fix the problem if not open it and clean the touchscreen contacts

Dell axim x 30 backup battery wont work

--This is a suggestion. I can not be certain given I have not worked on this device. --

Sounds like the backup battery is dead and needs to be replaced.

Researched The battery, and it is a standard flat-cell available at Radio Shack.

Taking the device apart will void the warranty.

The device is assembled in a standard click-tab and possibly some small hidden screws.

A plastic screw-driver or non-marring wedge tool is best.

Simple work your way around its edges until a gap forms and gently feel towards a portion that will not separate. Get a tool in there and gently pry away from the device to disengage the clips, rinse and repeat.

Upon removing all the tabs, remove the back panel slowly to assure that there are no wires connected to the panel itself, you should see the battery.

Black lines appeared on the screen

im sorry but it seems thats the screen had a dead pixel from when you bought it, the dead pixel has then since killed off the surounding pixels and they in turn have done the same. this sometimes forms a line but in some more unfortunate cases the screen can lose visual on both x and y axis's.
unfortuantly your manufaturers warrenty will not cover dead pixels as they are so common and there is a torrerance for them without doing harm, but some times dead pixels can spread.

hope this helps.

My Dell Axim X5 400MHz Pocket PC wont hold the charge

Some people have said that the original ppc2002 ROM has battery draining problems. If this is something new, perhaps it is a bad battery. Ebay for a new one.

If you think it might be a software problem and you have ppc2002-also known as Windows Mobile 2002, upgrade your Axim with the A04 ROM:http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R63937&SystemID=PDA_AXIM_X5&servicetag=&os=PPC&osl=en&deviceid=4434&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=3&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=7&fileid=82832

Other Axim stuff here (make sure to choose the correct operating system - ppc 2002 or ppc 2003): http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/devices.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=PDA_AXIM_X5&category=0&os=PPCA&osl=EN

Dell Axim problem

Most likely a bad connection along the sides of the screen causing a line of "dead" pixels. I have a similar problem with an old GPS reciever (several lines). You could attempt to repair but that would be risky unless you purchased a new working screen and replaed the entire screen (can find on ebay at times)

Screen alignment loop

The only thing I can think of is that the screen might be bad. Has it been hit or dropped? Are you SURE you haven't thrown it against the wall? :P Just kidding, but seriously, my dad's old Palm had a similar problem where if you tried to calibrate the screen, it would loop, and it was because the screen was old and wasn't performing correctly. Although you were pressing it in the right place, the screen wasn't reporting the locations properly, causing the thing to loop to try and get correct readings from the screen.

Dead - no response

Hi, I am looking for a battery related problem solution on my own Axim X51v, but it is different than yours. One thing I wanted to share with you is that I know if the battery cover lock button is not in the locked position (slid to the right) it activates the "battery door switch". I have occasionally received error messages on the Axim when I turn the screen on and it has missed sounding an alarm. it will say "the battery door switch was open, so the system was put into "sleep mode" to preserve data from being lost" or something like that. So I believe that the position of the latch is crucial. In my case, I think the switch gets dirty. When I get the warning, I slide the switch back and forth a few times and then it stops bugging me for sometimes several months.

So, if you do not have the cover on, then your latch is probably open, and the door switch will be sensed as open. I am not sure what Sleep Mode really does, but I'll bet it will make the Axim appear dead. At the very least, try sliding that latch back to the right. However, I would replace the door, because only friction actually holds the battery in place unless the door is on. It could fall out when you least expect it. Then I think you would lose any unsaved data, and if your internal backup battery was not up to the task, you could lose everything. I hope this info helps you out.

I'll go post my own problem now.

Axim wallaper resolution....

The screen is 320 x 240 You have the lower border and upper board which say maybe 10 pixels each. Take the 320-(10x2) borders and you will have 'about' 300 x 200 for a 'full' picture/backdrop.

Infrared Beaming Problem

My Axim is behaving the same way. I find that if I try to transfer something from my Palm IIIc to my Axim via infrared, it rarely sends the data immediately, and it often times out. I have found that I can often get it to work if I request the transfer on the Palm and then "stimulate" the Axim via tapping a menu selection or by momentarily blocking the view between the devices.
