Question about Olympus Camedia C-700 Ultra Zoom Digital Camera

1 Answer

Blurry Images i have recently purchased an Olympus C-700 Ultra Zoom, and i love it...but i need some help. when i'm taking pictures outside, at night, like...let's say at the moon, it's blurry. and when i take pictures, like at a concert, where flash is not allowed, it's also blurry. is there something i can do to change the shutter speed to where it will take crisper, cleaner pictures, or what needs to be done??? also, i just ordered a telephoto lens and a wide angle lens. what are these good for? just curious if you guys could explain your expert opinions for me. thanks in advance. :)

Re: Blurry Images

If there's not enough light your camera can't invent any. Well, normally it can, which is what a flash does, but as you've said, no flash allowed. Your photos are blury because you're not mounting the camera on a tripod or you are using an ISO value that's too low for the available light. The shutter speed is slow to make up for the lack of light you have. But it's obviously too slow to hand-hold and you're shaking too much when you're taking the photo. Increasing the shutter speed is only going to make your images underexposed. So, pick a higher ISO value or get a tripod or monopod. Oh and read the manual. As for you purchasing the wide angle lens and the telephoto lens, I can not fathom why you would purchase something and have no idea what it is used for. That just boggles my mind. Perhaps a basic photography book is in order? Something to get a few of the fundamentals down? Any photography book with the word "beginner" and probably the word "digital" in it would be a fine start. They're all equally basic.

I have a zooming problem on my Olympus Camedia C-700 Ultra, can you help?

It sounds like some part of the power zoom mechanism has failed. It could be repairable but with the age of the camera I doubt it would be worth it- something else may fail and a newer camera would also provide improved image quality.

When i turn my camera on the screen is blurry?

First make sure the lens is not smeared with something. If it is clean try setting all options to the factory default. You make have the camera set on a macro setting.

How do I turn on the Digital Zoom?

First, the digital zoom feature is not available in AUTO mode.

If you're not in AUTO mode, is the digital zoom turned on in the menu? Check the "DIGITAL ZOOM" entry in the Shooting menu.

I need help with setting the self timer on the Olympus Camedia c-700 camera. Can't figure how to do it with the menu. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

the self timer usually works like this.
find the self timer setting and set it to 5 or 10 seconds.
then exit the menu and click the button that you normally press to take photo. the self timer will start automatically and the picture will be taken after 5 or 10 seconds (depending on what you set).
note that the self timer will be reset to off after this.

My olympus FE-240 takes blurry pictures in night mode.

It's you...in night mode the shutter stays open much longer...plenty of time for you to move the camera. Use a tripod.

Olympus xD-Picture Card "Card Error"

First things first - need to make sure that the card is making proper electrical contact with the camera. Have a look at the contacts at the edge of the card and make sure they are spotlessly clean - even a fingerprint may cause problems.

Also, make sure the contacts in the camera have nothing causing a contact problem, and see if this resolves the issue.

Regards, Andy

First try to put the camera dial on the P mode setting and then press ok - right arrow to Mode Menu - down arrow to setup tab - then right arrow to All Reset and then right arrow to make sure it is set to On. Then power the camera off and then back on. The camera should then be in factory defaulted settings. Try taking an image in P mode and seeing how it turns out. If it is still blurry you may want to call Olympus technical support to further troubleshoot your issue. Their telephone number is 888-553-4448 option 5 and then option 1.

Blurry pictures

You're both right. The pictures are blurry because the shutter speed is too slow, but it's too slow because there isn't enough light for it to be faster. Try this: Set the ISO to 800 Set the camera at shutter priority mode, and enter 1/160 for wide angle to mid-zoom, and 1/400 for full zoom. If the pictures come out too dark ( and you're too far to use the flash ), you can always brighten them on the computer. But if they're blurry, you can't really fix that.

Blurry pictures

It is possible you were shooting in the NIGHT & PORTRAIT Scene mode. In this mode, the camera sets a slow shutter speed for the background exposure and fires the flash for the subject exposure. Since the shutter speed is slow, your subject should be still and the camera should be on a tripod - otherwise blur can result. Since this mode should only be used when the above conditions can be met, you should select PROGRAM AUTO mode for low light situations where you are taking images within six feet of your subject and the flash is required for proper exposure.
