I don't want to dissapoint you, but I will be truthful.

These TV sets are fairly complicated. Without the proper training, tools, and test facilities, servicing these sets is near impossible unless the fault is something very simple.

The odds are that you will have to give the set out to a service center for proper service. In conseration of the age of the set it may not be worth to invest any money in to it.

There are serious safety issues when servicing TV sets. This is also a consideration to be taken.

Is there a power fuse in this tv. sony 32" 1998 trinitron. Had great color, picture & sound. Will not turn on/no power.

There are fuses in most TV's... and in some cases, it's nothing but the fuse. BUT, the fuses are there to protect the circuits... so unless you know that there is nothing wrong with the TV, you shouldn't simply replace the fuse and plug it back in. However, if the TV is an older TV and it's either fix it by replacing the fuse or get rid of the TV... then I'd certainly take out the screws and check the fuses in the TV. But many times the fuse blows to protect it when something else fails... so if you find a blown fuse, look around for other signs.

Power will not come on

If you can see inside your tv..check the fuse. If the fuse is good, you have bad grounds on the solders and certainly som bad capacitors..I always look for caps that have 160volt to 250volts with less than 10Mfs. These almost always are the culprit. And Maybe check the main filtercap..About 200volts and 470Mf. They sometimes go weak. [Just sometimes] If the fuse is bad you have a bigger problem...This will include a bad H.O.T. and maybe a resistor or diode as well! Also a replace the horizontal driver transistor! Oh yes even the contoller Ic could go down....I would guess the first part of this solution is the answer and you have a good fuse!

My tv will not turn on

You do not give a model# or how this tv is. I can only guess this tv is 9 or 10 yrs old. In this case you have two bad capacitors 160v1Mf and 160v or 250volt 4.7Mf. then check all of solder grounds, resolder as needed. If the fuse is good than this will fix your tv.

TV will not power on

You will need to acquire the service and parts manual. This will guide you to the correct part number(s) you'll want to order. Any reputable parts dealer can help you in that aspect.
What usually causes these types of problems is a failure of the device itself or a "chain reaction" sort of event, causing the visibly defective part to smoke through no fault of it's own. Be sure to check for proper voltages before condemning the wrong area. Hope this helps...Accordianman

We hooked it up with another DVD player, no difference, We used another TV, worked good. We changed all the cable cords, and made no difference. It comes right down to that TV. yes from aboe it is 100% sure that trouble is in tv. every channel is blury and has a trail. it is due to focus of your tv is not ok 1 adjust focus control 2 focur wire going to crt base might be loose due to some foreign material deposited on crt base. 3 defective crt base. 4 if tv is old there might be possibility of crt getting weak. hope this will help.
