Did you check whether the disc spins inside it; after the disc has been loaded? If it does, and still do not recognize the disc; check with an other known disc. If that disc too do not play, the laser pick up unit is faulty, and should be replaced. If the disc do not spin inside the player; after loading it into; the Sled motor [the motor that spins the disc inside] is faulty.
Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Hi... There's a plastic post on the underside of the Lid ( if you dont find one there ,it's broken off)..Thats the disk brake post. When you close the lid it moves the brake out of the way allowing the disk to spin
If the post is ok, clean the laser lens ( gently with a cotton swab)
Often times there is a spring on the side of one of the rails. THat spring loses strength over time. If you can get to it ,try to carefully stretch it a little so that it does a better job keeping tension on the rail.
When you put in a disc, listen for the disc to start spinning. If you do not hear that then the laser and/or the spindle have blown out. You will have to get your Blu-Ray player serviced by a pro or Sony. Sony may fix it for free. They know that the drives are failing. So call them first. Otherwise the laser assembly needs to be replaced in the BR drive. I hope this helps! Good luck to you.
the reason it makes the "grinding" noise is because the motor that moves the lens to read the disk is dieing, this generally happens when you have played your ps2 for a long time, this only happens to older consoles.
