Go to the gateway website, and locate the software for the motherboard and video, and SOUND CARD. The sound card is the thing that will definitely not work with just a windows installation.
you need to get the rest. everything will be on one page and you should download everything thats there based on the Opsys you're using, keep the whole batch neatly in a unique folder, to be externally stored later, and then one by one install the Chipset, and the video, and the sound, and the USB, and the LAN, etc..

When you're all done you will be an expert!

No sound device

It's clear that you haven't installed Sound Driver for your sound card. If you have the motherboard installer Cd, put it in the Cd tray and install or else you can't do that, download the driver from the web and install it. I can't direct you to the link since the said sound card is not available, I would be better to help you if you let me know the Motherboard name, model and brand. Or if your sound card is not onboard, means you installed it on the Pci slot, then you must install the driver using the Cd that comes with the Hardware. Good luck,

If it has an onboard video card then reload the video driver.

If it has a PCI-e / AGP video card then download latest drivers and re-install driver, Dont forget to un-install original driver first.

Failing all that see if you can edit the screen resolution in safe mode. (Press F8 when you first switch PC on.

No audio

Hi

Quite likely, drivers for the audio controller is missing/not installed.

You did not give any info on the Operating System you installed and the sound card in question; Onboard or PCI Sound Card. I am assuming you have Windows XP or 2000 and using the builtin/onboard sound controller.

If this is correct, you will need to download and install ADI Onboard Sound Driver (Windows 2000/XP) - http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R94481.EXE

Let me know how you get on

Mike
