First of all it would be a waste of time trying to repair this camera yourself. Second if you take it to a repair shop chances are either it will be more expensive than the cost of the camera or they won't have the parts. if it's under warrenty take it back and have it replaced if it is'nt just purchase a new one. it will most likely cost you alot less money and frustration good luck

The faceplates will snap together usually on a camera, so you will need a small flat-headed screwdriver to press in the tabs to get the two pieces apart.

A possible cause of this problem may be low battery. Try a fully charged batter. if the same problem is still there try to reset the camera by removing the Battery, press the POWER button for 15 seconds, then reinsert the Battery after 1 minute and turn ON the Camera. If that does not work try To initialize the Camera, please press the MENU (HOME) button and go to SETUP.
From the SETUP menu go to SETUP 1 and select INITIALIZE and press OK.

Lens stuck open

I have to agree with one of the comments previously posted. I too had a Sony DCS-S700 and the lens was stuck open. Whenever I turned the camera on, the Sony Cybershot logo appeared and dissappeared, turning the camera off. I noticed the lens was crooked, so I moved it in the center direction and the camera worked again.

It is a bad ccd it need to be replaced some time you can get lucky by resetting the camera in the setup menu. When you take a picture the image is transmitted throught the ccd and translates the image to the cameras5.gif memory5.gif. It can be fixed. Or you can upgraded. Some places might offer a trade in value on your camera even if it is broke. end of Quote: i hade the same problem this guy knows the way of the lcd's
