Yes it should hum for a couple seconds, when energized.

1999 chrysler 3.5 lhs fuel not going to injectors

Then your fuel pump is not working, or your fuel filter is blocked. You will probably have to check your fuel pump circuit if you have no fuel pressure in the fuel rail, where the injectors sit. There is a fuse for the pump, usually in the under hood fuse/relay block. That is probably also where the fuel pump relay is located. You should hear or feel this relay click when the ignition key is cycled from off to on. Also, when the key is turned to on, you should hear the fuel pump in the gas tank turn on for about 2 seconds. This will put the pressure in the gas in the fuel rail, for starting the engine. If you don't hear the pump turn on for that 2 second period, it is probably a bad fuel pump. But know the fuse is good first.

Replaced the fuel pump and filter on a 2001 pontiac grand am se. car wont start is there anything else or filter keeping the gas from going to the engine?

dont know if I can help but make sure the fuel pump comes on for a few seconds when you turn the ignition on if not check the relay under the hood you may need someone to help with this there are 4 terminals when you pull the relay out one will have power all the time with the key on another one will have power for a few seconds when you first turn the ignition on if you have power there and the fuel pump dosent run at all the relay may be bad you can also check the connection by the fuel tank for power when you turn the ignition on also I just put a fuel pump in my sons 2000 grand am and it did not start after I put the pump in but I could hear the pump running but we had only put a couple of gallons of gas in so I put another 3 gallons of gas in and it started I also just put a pump in my daughters 2001 grand am and it started right away but I had put 5 gallons of gas in right away You can also see if there is fuel pressure at the fuel rail on the right side or passenger side of the engine there is a connection to check fuel pressure you can take the cap off and use a screwdriver to push the valvestem in to see if there is fuel there and any pressure. if you have power to the fuel pump and plenty of gas and the pump wont run try hitting the bottom of the fuel tank under the fuel pump with a ribber hammer

I have a 2000 323i that suddenly failed to start this morning. It will turn over just fine but just know ignition at all. It was fine last night..What gives?

This model will occasionally loose a single coil, but is not prone to loosing all ignition. Therefore, in the absence of any diagnostic test, the smart money bets on a fuel delivery problem.
Can you hear the fuel pump spin up for a second and then stop when you turn the key to the run position?
If you hear the fuel pump spin up, how much fuel is in the tank? If it shows 1/4 full and the car starts working if you add 5 or 10 gallons, then the problem is the transfer pump the moves fuel between the two tanks (there is a tank on either side of the spare tire).
If you don't hear the fuel pump spin up and if it does not get fuel when the tank is full, you should first check the fuel pump fuse and the relay, but the more likely culprit is the fuel pump.
I never suggest that people replace their own fuel pumps. The fuel vapors in the top of a gas tank are nothing to fool around with.

How do I change the fuel pump on a 2000 Acura TL?

hi, when you turn the ignition on do you hear the fuel pump start up if you do then the pump is fine if how ever you hear nothing then the chances are its going to either be the fuel pump or fuel pump relay, if you have a look in your fuse box you should be able to find the fuel pump relay if you cant locate it then its best you get a manual to show you the relays location, you can then put a finger on the relay and when you turn the ignition on you should feel a little click coming from the relay if you hear this then the pump needs replacing but if you hear or feel nothing then the chances are the relay needs replacing.

you can also check if the pump is working by removing the fuel feed hose from the injector fuel rail then once this is removed you put a tub under it then turn the ignition on if you have fuel shooting out then you know the fuel pump and relay are ok and you need to start thinking of some other problem such as ecu etc,

see what you find then get back to me and ill try and assist you further ok

I ran out of gas and went and put $10 of gas in it and it will not start, just keeps cranking

Either you burned out the fuel pump relay or you killed the fuel pump or both.
When you put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position do you hear the pump buzz? If not your right back to where you started except now you know that problem may be before the relay (no B+)
Check for B+ at Relay, then at Pump. If B+ is at Relay and at pump then bypass pump connectors (Fabricate jumper wires and run then from battery to pump)and see if pump buzzes. If it doesn't its the pump replace. it. I normally replace both if the person ran out of gas . Those relays get pretty hot.
Lastly if all of the above is good and car still doesn't start check for residual pressure with a pressure gauge. CAUTION This last procedure you should have a certified ASE Tech perform. Furthermore its a good idea to get the shop manual for this repair.

Your fuel pump is fitted in the fuel tank and its the thing you have to change so you either remove it and replace it with a new one as the pumps in the tanks do give problems so remove and replace OR take to your garage and ask them to do it foe you..
And alls done..
