There are two belts, one for the deck and one for the main drive. The main drive belt can be seen on the upper pulley under the engine. Check to see if it has slipped or broken.

I have a 1999 Yardmachine(MTD) model #13AS679G062, serial #1H287H2007-42 inch deck; when cold starting, the blades do not disengage, with the lift deck all the way up, clutch pedal depressed. I have...

Yes worn belts do stretch. On an MTD mower, like yours, there are blade brakes assemblies on either side of the mower where your feet rest. They stop the blade rotation when they make contact with the top of the deck pulley assembly. Part # 761-0168B Is the part # , you are looking for, you will need two of them.

MTD Lawn Tractor problem

The front belt should be a 954-0280A, rear 954-0370. When you go to higher gears, the front belt should be getting tighter as the vari-speed pulley is moving further back. Remove the shift plate, put the transmission in neutral. Start the engine, put speed selector in highest gear and slowly let out on the clutch. You should be able to see what the problem is. It will do everything the same as if were in gear, except move. Make sure you have the correct belts.

Slow Mow

Try fixing this problem by making sure the belt is installed properly.. Whenever you install a drive belt it needs to be "seated". Make sure the belt is on correctly and the first time you try it out to see if the mower will move, start out in the highest gear. Hang on as it may ****, but this is the proper way to replace and seat a drive belt.

42" mtd yardmachine belt keeps coming off

twords the rear of the deck there are two bars with pins that hold the deck.they should have 3 or 4 holes where you can adjust the rear of the deck.check to see if there set to the middle somewhere,if so you can disconnect the 2 pins and try going up 1 hole iif that didn't work try down 1 from original point.

I HAVE A 660 SERIES MTD YARD MACHINE 17.5HP 42

If the speed seems to be different after changing the belts, it should return to normal after they break in.

The 600 series has a top speed of about 5 - 6 MPH, see:
