Question about Goodman GMS90703BXA Heater

1 Answer

Heater turns on and then turns back off after about 30 seconds.

I have what I think is a Goodman GMV95/GCV9. I base that on seeing a manual online and it looks like the same heater. My heater is installed in the upflow position.
This is the first time I attempted to use it since spring. I am not sure if we are just not following proper procedure but all we do is turn the thermostat to cool in the spring.
Here are the syptomps.
Turned the thermostat to heat and set the temperature to about 74. Got not heat. Turned off the thermostat and turned it back on again and looked at the heater. I could see it glowing through the sight glass and then it would turn off and start backup again. It did this twice while I saw it but I am assuming it did it three times and then went into lockout mode. The led from the lower glass flashes once.
We had this same problem last year and a technician came out and said our filter was dirty. I tried changing the filter and then i cleaned the flame sensor with steel wool and tried to fire it back up again. It went through the same process of glowing through the upper sight glass, cycled a few times and then went back into lockout. Is there anything else I can try to fix this problem.

I found a fix to my problem. Hope this helps someone. There is a hose that goes from the pressure switch to the blower. I saw some internet post about others solving a problem by using a paper clip to clear it out. My hose is a little too big for a paper clip as I think they were referring to a different model. I pulled off the hose and blew through it and some water came out. I then put the hose back in and started up the unit and fired up right away.

On my goodman gmv95 blower starts, glowplug lights, gas turns on, then glowplug goes out and gas shuts off. any suggestions what the problem could be?

You did not mention how long the main burner stayed on. If it stayed on only a few seconds, most likely you have a dirty or bad flame rod. The flame rod is located in the flame path of the last burner to ignite. Take a toothbrush and scrub off any debris that may be on it. Also check all the wire connections from the rod back to the circuit board.

Have a Goodman GMT070-3B which the vent motor seems to be sticking. I took apart and cleaned the brushes and reassembled. The furnace will come on only after what seems like the vent motor comes up to...

The whole assembly must be replaced.

The sequence of operation is -

Combustion fan purges the heat exchanger. A pressure switch verifies combustion air fan is running. Usually a 30-45 second purge before the hot surface ignitor glows, or the spark ignition starts.

Gas valve opens after 10-15 seconds and main burners light. Control board monitors for flame and shuts gas valve after 2-3 seconds if main burner does not light.

If burner does not light, some boards repeat this for 3 tries, then locks out and is reset by cycling power.

Air blower comes on after another 30-45 seconds after main burner ignition.

Times may vary based on the specific controller board. A flow chart and timing sequence should be located somewhere on the unit, usually in the fan compartment.

A/c unit runs but only blows into the house for about 30 seconds

Shut the power off to the unit, spin the fan blade to see if it spins freely. If it doesn't spin freely, (there appears to be a little drag when you spin it),the bearings are bad, if it does spin freely, then try moving the motor shaft from side to side if there’s any play in the shaft side to side then the bearings are worn and motor needs replaced. Then, check the capacitor, if it’s bulging even slightly, the capacitor is bad and needs replaced. Most of the time people replace the capacitor if motor seems ok. If capacitor is ok, turn power on to see if the motor is getting the proper voltage, if it is and not trying to run, then the windings are probably open, the motor's bad and needs replaced.

Blower starts ans stops

Your system has a number of blowers and fans. Are you refering to the "Room Air Blower"? If so, at what point does it start? 30 seconds after you turn the air on, 1 minute, etc...? Does it ever come back on? The more you help us with information, the more we can help you!
