The only thing you can do in that case is a factory reset, doing so will mean you will have to set the router up again with the WEP password for the wireless signal.
To set the router back to factory specifications: using three hands, hold the router face to you in one hand, pull out the power plug out of the back of the router with another hand, press the reset switch with a straightened out paper clip with another hand, THEN whilst holding the router in one hand, holding down the reset switch with a paperclip in another hand, replace the power plug with another hand and keep holding down the reset switch for 15 seconds.
I do this very simple three handed operation almost every day.
you can access the routers setup page via with admin as the user name and leave the password blank.

How to secure my wireless router

    • 1 Connect your wireless router per the instructions in your user manual.
    • 2 Open your Internet browser and enter the IP address assigned to your router. Major manufacturers assign different default IP addresses to their routers. For example, Netgear routers use while Linksys uses Consult your manual for details.

    • 3 Log in to your router configuration by typing the username and password specified in your manual.
    • 4 Set your Service Set Identificatier (SSID) by typing it into the box. This is the name of your wireless network. Make it a unique phrase; the default SSID is usually the name of the router manufacturer, such as Netgear or Belkin.
    • 5 Set your wireless network's security protocol to WPA 2.0 -- Wi-Fi Protected Access. This encrypts any data sent over the network and allows access only to users who have the security key. Set your security key as something not easily guessed. A string of random numbers and letters is recommended. Be sure to record this security key in a safe place so you can recall it when adding a new device to your network or changing network security settings.

Cannot remember user name

If you have never changed the user name and password you can just do a search for your router type's default user name and password.

Forget user name and password how to set up new ones

You may have to resent the router for that purpose! User name and password are usually default for each router. If you have not set up a user name or password try default admin in password section and leave user name blank. If you have set up a user name and password and forgot now then you may have to reset the router by pressing reset button on back of router for 30 to 60 seconds which brings back factory default settings for the router!

I forget passward and user name user name : admin password : hsparouter but not access it give me 401 Unauthorized

The easiest way to recover entry to your router is to hard reset the router by using the tip of a pen and pushing it into the reset button on the router for at least 15 seconds. The router should then reset to defaults, which includes the user name and password.
The default user name and password should be listed somewhere on the router. If it isn't, then search online with your router's model number to find the default user name and password and default IP address. For example:
IP Address:
Username: admin
password: password

Your router may be different but it should be somewhat similar to my example.

Good luck, please post back to this solution if you have any difficulties, and thanks for using FixYa.

Belkin is asking me regarding username and password provided by isp. how/where can i find that?

That would be the user name and pwd your internet provider gave you. Sometimes that would be the same as your email address but could be a separate one. If you don't recall what it was the best thing to do is call your provider and ask them. They will probably ask other questions first to varify your are the owner of the account. Router's don't ask for your ips's login however. Perhaps it is the login and password for the belkin itself you are needing? If so and you've forgotten it you'll have to reset the router and set it up again.

Don't understand how to set password. please help

Plug the router into the power socket and configure you own machine to obtain IP address automatically. Load up Internet explorer and type in http:/ which is the local address of your router. You should then get a password screen. Enter default user name and password and it will take you to the configuration screen. The full IP address and user name and password are dependant on which model you have. See list below From there you need to read the instructions very carefully and match it with the information provided by your ISP.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response. Happy Holidays!

Thanks, Joe

When I try to log on to wireless network with my Mac computers it asks me for user name and password. I cannot recall what they are?

The default factory settings are:

Username: admin
Password: password

If this doesn't work try a blank password or admin

If you still can't access the router you can reset it to the factory settings by inserting a paperclip into the small hole where the reset button is located.

Hello, I have misplaced my password and cannot get access for my other devices...can you help?

You will need to access the router's admin console via the web interface. Should be able to type or 1.1 or 2.1 in your browser's address bar and access the admin console there. Once in, you'll find the pw's you need under the security tab. I've not been in the admin console for a Belkin in many moons, so I do not recall the exact details. You can look in your manual for the details on that, or download a manual from their website...

If you do not recall the user name and pw for the admin console, then you will need to reset the device by holding in the reset button, usually for about 10 seconds. Then type in the ip addresses above, reset your admin console UN and PW, then set new wireless security protocols and PW's.

Hope that helps...

I set up a new server which is saying authentication required

Try leaving the username blank, default password is "admin. If it does not work, do you recall changing the router's username and password when you ran the cd that came with it? If you're still unable to get pass through authentication, reset the router by pushing the little reset button at the back for 10 seconds or so.
