Question about Dell Inspiron 700M Notebook
Dell has worked on it several times. After a small time period of leaving the laptop alone, the screen either goes out where I would have to restart it or the screen will shrink to one line of about a millimeter and will be at the top of the screen. Dell has replaced the screen and it has had no effect. It has been erased and reloaded several times.
What could be the issue.
I'm going to say that this is a problem with the video card. The video card controls the screen, and the screen wouldn't do this, so replacing the screen won't have any affect on the problem. As you have noticed. Have Dell replace the video card, and everything will work properly. I'm also going to say you will most likely have to be a bit forceful with Dell. Tell them you had it diagnosed by a tech, don't tell them it was on line. They know, or should know, that the screen won't cause this problem, and that the video card is the issue, but the video card is integrated into the motherboard, and motherboard replacement is the only viable solution. Sounds to me like they're trying to get out cheap.
