You will need to change the screen resolution in the external monitor settings, as you must have them set at 800x600 or similair and it will need to be atleast 1280x800, just right click on empty space on desktop and select graphic properties

Dell pc to tv hook up

Most video cards on computers output progressive scan, and your flat screen tv may be interlaced. This would cause the horizontal hold to keep rolling.

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

I am trying to connect an external monitor to my legacy PowerBook G4 laptop.  I have the original video adapter dongle that Apple provided, which goes from digital video to VGA.  I've tried different...

Since your laptop's display has a problem, that could indicate trouble elsewhere in the computer that is preventing you from adjusting your resolution properly. In fact, a shrunken display points more to a problem in the video processing, not in the display itself.

Laptop comes on but monitor remains black

Hello,

IT could be one of two things. First make sure that you have the laptop set to display on the LCD. Most laptops will have a Function key labeled by Fn then you will need to look at the function keys at the top F1-F12 and find the one that either says CRT/LCD or has a picture of a screen or monitor. Then, after you have found that key, you will need to press and hold the Fn key and tap the appropriate function key, this will alternate between the LCD (laptop) and CRT (monitor). If you have trouble finding the correct key combination for switching displays should be listed in the manual.

If that doesn't correct it, then I would try locating a desktop CRT and connecting it to the monitor connection on the rear of the laptop and again pressing the keys to switch between CRT/LCD. If it shows on the CRT then I would say that the LCD on the laptop is bad.

Thanks

Have toshiba satellite a130/a135 laptop screen red then goes blank

Try hooking up a external monitor. If you get video on the monitor and not the LCD, then your LCD may be in trouble.
If you don't get video on the external monitor, then your video card is gone.

I'm trying to connect my toshiba satellite m115 to my insignia 19" lcd hdtv but its saying on the tv " mode not support " how do i fix that so i can watch my laptop on my tv?

Your toshiba m115, like my m105, is probably set at settings 1280X800. Once the LCD is hooked up to your laptop
  1. Right mouse click on empty spot on desktop
  2. left click on properties
  3. left click on settings tab
  4. left click on advanced
  5. left click on INTEL MEDIA GRAPHICS tab at top
  6. left click on graphics properties
  7. display settings
  8. change to 1024X768 or 800X600 (whatever lcd tv supports)
  9. click apply
  10. click on display devices
  11. make selection
  12. apply

Wavy or distorted monitor

Wavy or distorted issues only arise if electronics or anything that has magnets in it is near it or on the CRT ( the really huge monitors) so try moving it elsewhere ( In this case you can hire someone with the "magic wand " to zapp the colours back)(general tv repairer. If its an LCD (flat and small screen) it may be dying as the transistors are wearing out ( They usually last for 4 yrs) The only thing you can do is replace the circuit board or the panel . If you have another pc or laptop try to connect it to the monitor and if the pictures are perfect ,its your graphics card .

The best solution to this is to move the screen to another place without electronics or to connect it to a laptop or pc to see if its ok. If the symptoms persist i recommend you to buy another perferably dell screens 19" Lcd as they are cheap and provide good quality.

Sorry for the huge legnth of this Hope it helps :)
