No audio output installed in my aspire 5100 laptop

Suggest you download the Audio driver, AND install it.

[ A Driver is a small piece of software written, so that the Operating System can 'communicate' with a device.

Windows XP and Windows 7 are just two examples of an O/S.
The audio chipset soldered to your motherboard is a device ]

Acer Support > Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook PC > Downloads and Support Documents page,

You can see there are 5 versions of Audio drivers listed.
How to know which one to use?

Click on them one by one, and look.

1) The first one listed shows it is for Windows XP, and the 32-bit usual version.
(XP_86 )

If you have XP Home or Pro use this one. (And NOT a 64-bit version of Pro)

2) The second one listed is for Windows Vista, and the 32-bit version.

Go on.

3) The third Audio driver listed is for Windows Vista also. It is also for a 32-bit version of Vista. However this one is a newer version, and has bugs worked out over the older version listed above.

For laptops using Windows Vista, and the 32-bit version, this is the one to use.

4) The fourth one listed is for Windows XP, and the usual regular 32-bit version.
However it is an older version. The version in Number 1 above is newer.
The one to use.

5) The fifth audio driver file listed is for the Windows Media Center Edition. (MCE)

It is an older version, but the only one listed for Windows MCE.

[ Notice all audio drivers are for a Realtek audio device.
You have a Realtek audio chipset soldered to your motherboard ]

How to know which version of Windows you have?

A) For Windows XP left-click on Start, then right-click on My Computer.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.

When the System Properties window comes up, you will see what version of Windows XP you have.

If it is Windows XP Pro, and does NOT show 64bit, it is a 32-bit O/S.
(The usual)

B) Windows Vista and Windows 7:
Left-click on the Windows logo button, then right-click on Computer.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.

If it is 64-bit it will say so.

Going back to the pop-up small window, that comes up on the right.
The driver file.

Make sure there is a green dot in the small circle, to the left of -
Save File.
If not left-click in the empty circle to the left of - Save File.

Now go below, and click on OK.

A small window will come up on the left.
In the heading of this small window, tells you where the audio driver file will download to.

It may have Desktop, or My Documents, or Downloads, in the wording.
Write it down.

[ For Vista and Win7 it will be either Desktop, or Documents, or Downloads ]

Desktop: The audio driver file will be on your desktop screen.

My Documents: Left-click on Start, then on My Documents.

[ For Vista and Win7;
Left-click on the Windows logo button, then on Documents ]

Downloads: Left-click on Start, then on My Documents.
DOUBLE-click on Downloads.

[ For Vista and Win7;
Left-click on the Windows logo button. Then left-click on Documents.
DOUBLE-click on Downloads ]

When you see the audio driver file, DOUBLE-click right on it.
In the next 3 small windows click on;
Next, Next, and Finish.

Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.
Restart the computer.

Your windows is installed on FAT 32 partition, so it is not recognized partitions bigger than 4 Gb. Change to NTFS. ATTENTION ! All informations on your computer will be lost. Do this only after saving your private files !!!

Audio Problem

Intel Desktop Board D945GCNL HD Audio Controller 5605 Windows Vista(32/64)/XP(32/64)/2000
Installs the Realtek audio driver version 5605 for Intel® Desktop Boards.

IMPORTANT: Audio drivers may fail to install in Windows* XP 64-Bit Edition. Symptoms may include error messages, such as "Error in installation" or "Unknown error". Microsoft's Update for Windows XP x64 Edition (KB901105) fixes this issue. After installing this update, the audio drivers for Windows XP 64-Bit Edition will successfully install.

Device shows : STK7700D.

Here is the lenovo site for the drivers for you pc. Only download and install the xp driver versions...after which you should be able to update the drivers for the devices that have the yellow color and should not have any problems installing.

You can also check the windows update a custom update and search for drivers...sometimes new driver versions can be downloaded that way.

Hope this helps
