Question about Olympus Camedia C-750 Ultra Zoom Digital Camera

1 Answer

Shutter Problem I have an Olympus C-750 that I was in love with until 5 days before my vacation when the shutter button decided to stop working. Zoom in and out still works, but the shutter will not respond to the button or the remote. The other strange symptom is when I turn the camera on, it snaps a picture (and then won't take anymore). Thought I might have managed to put it in a certain mode or hit some magic series of buttons to put it in this strange mode, but I can't undo it. Tried changing batteries, using the power cord, resetting, leaving the batteries out, all no joy. Do I have the first known digital camera virus, is the operating system corrupted, or is it simpler than that? Trying to avoid sending it off to the repair center to save money and time. Anyone with any clue, I would greatly appreciate your help.

Re: Shutter Problem

I had an Olympus C-3000 this same type of sympton happened to me. I sent it off to Olympus to be fixed (via local camera dealer). When it came back, after about 10 shots, it failed again the same way. Back to Olympus a second time. Came back and failed again after about 10 shots. This time dealer worked with Olympus and I was given a new reburbished camera (same model). This whole thing took about 4 months. Time frame was a couple of years ago.

Olympus C-8080, everything works except the shutter release. I press the shutter button, auto focus is done but "no shutter release". Any ideas? Derek

Does the shutter button feel like it's contacting twice as you press it in? if not, the spring disk in the switch is split; It has happened to me on other cameras on several occasions. Solution is to replace the switch.

If it works otherwise I would suspect the ribbon cable. They can get loose, or the contacts can get oxidized. I don't know specifically about the c-8080, on some cameras the contacts are tinned, which can oxidize. In that case it's a matter of gently rubbing the contact strip with a paper eraser until the contacts become shiny. Of course, that means disassembling the camera ;)

You've probably retired this camera or don't have it anymore but in case you still have it, I hope this helps a bit.

How to get manual focus on Olympus Camedia C-750 ultra zoom digital camera

TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTITf correct focus cannot be obtained
When the subject to be focused is not on the AF target mark (not positioned
in the center of the composition), you can use the following steps to obtain the
correct focus on the subject. This operation is referred to as "focus lock".
Determine the position of the subject after focusing (Focus Lock)
1 Press the power switch.
• The camera turns on in the shooting
mode.
• The lens extends and the monitor turns
on.
• The orange lamp lights.
2 Turn the mode dial and select a
shooting mode.
"Shooting mode" (P.36)
3 Position the AF target mark on
the subject you want to focus on.
• When shooting a hard-to-focus
subject, point the camera at an object
about the same distance away as the
subject.
Press the shutter button halfway
until the green lamp lights.
• When the green lamp lights steadily,
the focus and the exposure are locked.
• When the green lamp blinks, the focus
and exposure are not locked. Release
your finger from the shutter button, reposition
your subject and press the
shutter button halfway again.
5 Keeping the shutter button
pressed halfway, recompose
your shot.
6 Press the shutter button fully.
Try the above, info from D-535, C-370 and X-450.
I can email you the complete manual if this works.
Regards
Phillip

Olympus mju zoom 140 35mm camera. shutter has started clicking as if taking when zooming (in or out)even when not pressing the shutter button...?

This is like to be the zoom motor playing up.
If the camera is new[1 year or less] return it.
A repair is not a likely option.

TROUBLESHOOTING c-750

There are a couple issues related to "slow" that I have with my C-750, and this is how I get around them.

One is the write speed to the xD card. This can prevent you from taking sequential pictures quickly, as the camera displays the current picture it is writing until it finishes. You can make the image of the current picture go away and use your viewfinder again, while the camera is writing the picture, by pressing the shutter button halfway and releasing it. Then you can see your subject in the viewfinder again!

Second is the delay between the time the shutter button is pressed and the time the shutter actually opens (when the camera actually takes the picture). This can be fixed by lining up your shot and pressing the shutter button halfway and holding it for a few seconds. This will give the camera time to adjust and lock focus, shutter speed, etc. There is a small green dot on the display below the battery indicator which will blink a few times when the button is pressed halfway, then remain on steady. When the green dot is steady, the camera is ready. Press the shutter button, and the camera should immediately take the picture.

Shutter release inoperative

The "button" is actually just a plastic extension for the actual switch on the printed circuit board. You will have to dismantle the camera to gain access to the board and then use a DMM to test the switch contacts.

Olympus C-750 shutter problems

Changing the firmware won't change anything. The micro switch may be stuck in the on postition. If you are familiar with micro circuits, you could get the switch from Olympus or USCamera.com and replace it. Or, send the camera to Olympus or an Olympus authorized shop.

In shutter priorty mode it seems that the apeture is always set to f2.8 regardless of shutter setting.

Are you sure you don't mean the PROGRAM mode here ?? - The Oly program mode favors the f 2.8 f stop until the shutter speed rises to 1/300th to 1/400th - only at this point will the f stop start to rise. If it IS the shutter priority mode then you have the shutter speeds set too HIGH and the camera is making an attempt to do the best it can by setting the lens as WIDE as it can at f 2.8. James, Try this again in good light and reduce the shutter speed lower and lower - eventually the f stop will start to rise
