Samsung ml-1740 printer - their driver not compatible with my Windows Vista

I have a nbew Toshiba m305d-s4830 laptop which is using the Microsoft Home Premium 64 bit with SP1 and the machine has 4 gig RAM and is a 64 bit machine. When I download from Samsung's site the driver which is a Windows Vista 32/64 bit driver and try to install it - I get the message - Windows can't install Samsun ML-1740 kernal mode print driver. To obtain a driver that is compatible with the version of Windows you are running contact the manufacturer.

I did, and Samsung said it is a Windows problem.

Can you help me?

Richard

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!!

I greatly appreciate your assistance. I did what you said and the printer is now working fine, thanks to you. I tried the first steps, then had to do a system restore to the beginning. Once I did that and followed your steps, it worked.

I would have reinstalled Vista if it didn't work. I was so frustrated, and now I feel great.

Thank you for responding so quickly too. YOU'RE THE BEST!!!!

I HOPE OTHER PEOPLE HELP YOU WHEN YOU NEED HELP. BEST WISHES TO YOU AND THANK YOU AGAIN.

Try to install the software by clicking the right button of mouse on it and chose 'run as administrator ' from drop down menu.

Before installing do the following:

Unplug pinter USB.

Remove printer from installed printers (delete ) from Windows control panel.

Keep printer usb cable unplugged when you start driver setup software, you will be asked by setup wizard when to plug in the cable, or reconnect after installation.

If it still does not work, do a system restore to a date before you plugged in the printer for the first time, then repeate software setup as above.

If it still does not go you may need to reinstall Vista or replace the printer, one of the system files or regisries entries had developed a problem with printer driver, and is not easy to locate and remove the files concerned one by one.

you must go to printer in control panel, then right click the desired printer icon, then click properties, then click on Port. then if using usb port, you must check each port untill you find the correct usb port that you are connected to (click apply each time). may take a couple tries untill you find the correct usb Port that the cable is connected to. worked on my HP desktop, finally
