Our whirlpool ed5hexmb10 isn't cooling the refrigerator or freezer. All perishables went bad.

Does compressor run? Are coils under fridge blocked with debri or dust. Is compressor fan running, they quit on older units and need cleaning and lubing, usually attached to compressor.

GE DL213908 Side by Side Refrigerator not freezing or cooling properly

It doesn't cool
  1. Condenser coils
Make sure you dust off the condenser coils to prevent dust build up and overheating due to it overworking. Simply unplug and use a long coil cleaning brush to get rid of debris.
  1. Check seals
If your refrigerator door seal is broken, warm air is pushing its way inside the unit, thus causing it to not cool properly. Prevent this from happening by replacing your seal and keeping the cool air inside.
  1. Temperature controls
Ensure that your thermostat is set correctly, usually 38-40 degrees Fahrenheit.
  1. Defective condenser fan
When this fan is defective, cold air is prevented from flowing through the vents. It may require replacement.
  1. Compressor issues
Check if there are clicking sounds coming from the compressor as it tries to start. If there is a clicking, it is one of only two options, either the start capacitor or a bad compressor. A start capacitor is fairly inexpensive whereas a sealed system repair on the compressor is very expensive and often not cost effective. Refrigerator Repair Help Troubleshooting and Parts

My whirlpool ED5VHEXV001 frig is not cooling well; freezer is doing just fine. Found beaucoup dust clogging the heat dissipating coils under frig. Cleaned 1st row of heat dissipating coils. Frig is now...

You can purchase special cleaning brushes to do that - BUT since I purchased one, I used it when I first got it and then put it away somewhere and can't find it. So I had to figure something else out, and what seems to work the best is to turn on the vacuum and put on the floor in front of the unit and then use an air compressor blowing it out from the rear. While it does blow dust into the kitchen, it seems to work well as cleaning out the condenser coils.

Hotpoint side by side refrigerator. Freezer stopped blowing cold air while refrigerator side continued to cool. Freezer was totally thawed when I discovered problem but refrigerator side was still...

Hi

Check the freezer to ensure it isn't over loaded with food stuff; reason being air must flow freely threw out the entire refrigerator in order for the thermostat to work correctly. Also check whether the unit needs defrosting or not. You should also check the coils on the rear of the refrigerator and make sure they are clean and dust free. If you still have problems after trying the above; you may need to call a repair service to come out and check the unit

My side by side refrigerator is not cooling

Hello,

Inspect the gasket for dirt or debris that could prevent it from sealing. If you find any, remove the large debris, then wash the gasket, using a scrub brush and warm, soapy water.

Check the gasket for cracks or tears that can let cold air escape. If you find any, replace the gasket. If the gasket appears to be solid, go on to step 3.
Check the seal: Open the door, insert a dollar bill partway and shut the door on the bill. Try to pull out the bill. You should feel some resistance. Repeat the test at several points around each door. If the bill slips out easily, replace the gasket.

If there is any circuit breaker, reset it.

Check for thermostat problems. It could be off or won't cool properly (too warm,). If it can't be fixed with a simple adjustment, call a professional.

Check for coil problems. The compressor can overheat due to dust buildup on condenser coils. If so, vacuum the coils.

The above are the likely problem and the solution.

Take care.

It does not cool

Hi there,

One of the most common causes of intermittent performance is a build up of dust or other debris around the condenser coil. This coil is part of the refrigeration hardware and is critical to reliable operation. The coil is under the unit and must be cleaned periodically.

See this link:
http://www.apwagner.com/index.php?main_page=model_lookup&model_num=GS6SHEXNQ00&model_id=147390&manufacturer=

Pay special attention to the #11 drawing (click on it) to identify the condenser coil and to check it for debris.

I suggest you boookmark this page as it may come in handy down the road for reference.

There is lots of dust under the refrigerator but I can't reach it to clean it. Does the bottom tray pull out to get at it?

Hi,
The bottom tray on most units will pull out.
However I have found that there are some better ways to getthe dust and dirt out from under there.
A good shop vac with a crevice tool is a great way to get in there.
Another way that I have often cleaned under neath is to use an air compressor with an air nozzle at high pressure. You can blow everything clean and then vacum up the dirt.
It is very important to keep things clean so that your compressor stays cool and the coils have good air for heat transfer.

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Refrigerator and freezer are not cool enough. Cleaned coils, has enough space between walls.etc.

Most likely problem is the internal fan. The fan draws air across the cooling coils and blows it into the freezer and refrigerator compartments. If it malfunctions, there's nothing to move the cold air and both sides of the unit get warm.

Whirlpool side by side - refrigerator not staying cold

How old is it? have you ever cleaned the coils under neath where the dust gathers?
I've seen people that never cleaned the coils underneath and behind the plastic grill at the bottom front of the fridge that had a warm fridge and the after they used a refrigerator brush down below were okay the next day! They had 2 inches of solid dust under there blocking the air that is supposed to be passing over the coils to cool the system!! Get out the book and read the directions how to do this procedure that I'm telling you about first before you call service! If it's not caked with dust and obscuring
the site of the coils, then you need service instead!
Bless You
