Question about Olympus Camedia C-5050 Zoom Digital Camera

1 Answer

Shutter Lag All, I have an Olympus 5050 Digital Camera that I have been using for a while now for home use and I am quite happy with the results. The only complaint I have is with the capture speed of the camera. The shutter lag seems to be about between 3-5 seconds which becomes quite obvious while taking pictures of moving objects (moving kids). I don't know if the issue is with the shutter speed of the camera or with the slower memory cards. I am using the SimpleTecg 256 MB Compact Flash card, but I know there are faster cards out there

Re: Shutter Lag

Card speed won't interfere with shutter lag. The lag is much less (near non-existent) if you pre-focus. Or use manual focus with small enough aperture to get lots of depth of field. Make sure your kids are in the focus zone and just snap away.

Slow sutter speed/Lag in taking a picture

Use full auto mode or take out of Aperature priority, you may be shooting with a very small aperature setting and not know it. Also shutter priority can be set to a slow shutter speed.

Olympus C5050

That's a crying shame.  I believe that spares are no longer available for this unit (which is, IMHO, one of the very best prosumer digitals ever built).
Your best bets would be to take it to a local camera service center, or, to look on eBay for a used C5050 or C8080 (8MP with most of the same capabilities and some improvements, but, not quite as good an aperture) for a very reasonable price in good condition.
I know that's less than ideal, but, after a great deal of research on a similar problem with my C5050, that's where I ended up.

Camedia C-5050 zoom won't take pics

Is your memory full? Does the camera attampt to focus when you push the button down 1/2 way? If not the mode dial may be faulty (you are not in picture taking mode) or the shutter button may be faulty (no focus attempt) Try to use the timer button to get the shutter to trip.

Shutter Lag-Time

The G5 has a rather short shutter lag and a rather lengthy focus lag. So if you half depress the shutter release to focus, and then moments later fully depress the shutter release I expect you will find very little lag. But I would not expect a prosumer model to focus fast. hope this helps,

Action Shots

I don't know your model of camera but this seems to be, "shutter lag", a comment issue with digital cameras. Take a look at this digital camera article on the subject. Also you may find a delay when using the LCD screen for framing the shot.

Olympus C2000 picture quality

There are so many variables that effect your exposure. Batteries, ISO rating, shutter, aperture, etc. Remember your pictures are digital, and you should have a good graphics program to make adjustments (e.g. Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, Photo Deluxe, etc.). I suspect your pictures are under- exposed due to weak batteries from using the flash so much. The only batteries suitable are NiMHs. NiCad or Alkalines will not cut it.

Shutter Lag

Thats going to be a problem with most digital cameras in that price range (and even some $$ ones) really the only thing I can recommend is PF.F.S. That would be Pre-Focus -- Frame -- Shot. Many people try to frame a photo up then focus/shot all in one, but this does not always work. So if your looking to speed things up a little, just half press the button to get a prefocus and then do your magic. Really everything I talked about above was Focus-lag, not actually shutter lag. But since this is often confussed I thought I would add it in.
