Question about Refrigerators

FRIGIDAIRE FRT21PRH Not Freezing

Frig not cooling very well and freezer not freezing at all (everything is melting). Compressor is hot, but condenser coils on back of fridge are cool and clean of dust. Took back cover off inside freezer, top right hand corner of coils frozen and the copper tube where the Cold-Control snaps in place is frozen as well. So I melted that with a blowdryer and restarted frig. Waiting to see if that fixes it. My theory is that either the cold control is bad, or some relay involved with the defrost mode is bad. I could probably just replace both with minimal costs. Any chance it could be the compressor? and how can I eliminate the compressor as a suspect?
Thanks

Additional info: The compressor motor seems to run continuously and the fan motor inside the freezer compartment also runs continuously. Even although there was some ice on the corner portion of the coils in the freezer, i would consider the amount fairly small. It's not like the entire coil system was covered in 3 inches of ice or anything like that. It only took me a few minutes to melt all the ice with the blow dryer.

No timer under the kick plate on this one. Fan blows continuously. No frozen water in sight in the freezer. The air coming out of the ducks in the freezer just is not cold enough. Barely cool. Everything works or is running. The fridge cuts off for defrost, the compressor runs, and the fan in the freezer runs. Maybe I have lost freon by some freak reason?
Unless there is more frozen spots in places i can't see. The selector that turns on the heater for between the doors so moisture does not occur is active and working.......gets warm when I turn the switch on.

This sounds just like my problem, but I do not understand what the solution was. Can you clarify what fixed the problem?

"if you have an ice ball on the evapator you have a leak...ice not frost"

What does these mean? "you have a leak" - does this mean a Freon leak?

One thing that may be different in my situation is the frig door is leaking water (in addition to all the other simptoms you describe).

If the evaporator has a full frost pattern it is not your compresser... First I could check your fan motor is it running...if the frost blocks the air flow it will stop cooling.. Next it could be a defrost problem or a plugged drain... to get it to work temporary defrost the freezer. Unplug the refrigerator, open the door and get a blow dryer and warm up the freezer. wait until the water stop dripping out or about 12 to 24 hours and then you can plug it back in . it will work for 2 to 3 weeks. To unplug the drain.defrost the freezer .remove the back cover. Use a pipe cleaner to clear the drain. pour a few cups of hot water down the drain. The defrost systems is:
HEATER-DEFROST
THERMOSTAT-DEFROST
TIMER-DEFROST
Start with the timer. It is just under the front kick plate. there is a knob you can turn it slowly.until it clicks off the compressor. then open the freezer and listen . You should hear the heater come on .. it will sizzle when it comes on ...
You will have to remove the back panel of the freezer to check the heater for and thermostat for continuity. Heater are the lease likely part to go bad... I always change thermostat and timers together.
let me know if this helps or we can chat if you need more help

Clean and inspect the coils around the compressor area. Check for a functioning condenser fan and feel the compressor if it is very hot to the touch the relay is probably fried.

That sounds like the start relay is buzzing. Unplug and lets check the compressor to see how hot and if too hot to hold your hand on the top of compressor we need to leave it unplugged until we find out if the start relay, start capacitor, overload or if the condenser fan stops after running a short while. Whirlpool runs, but freezer not freezing and frig not freezing

If the compressor is running but the unit is not cooling you may have lost the refrigerant.  See if the condenser coils at the back or bottom are hot.  If they are only warm then the refrigerant is low and can be recharged.  Service tech should check for leak in coolant system.

Freezer not freezing and fridge not cooling

Check the back wall of the freezer for ice buildup.
If yes, a defrost parts problem.
Check the freezer fan. Is it running?
If no, replace the freezer fan.
Check the condenser fan at the compressor. Is it running?
If no, is compressor hot?
If compressor is hot replace condenser fan motor.
If compressor is not hot.
Replace the compressor start relay.

Freezer not freezing frig not cold

the compressor with a picture of an Indian, its a techumseh. Is the compressor running? If not, could be stuck in defrost mode. Since you have looked at the compressor, there is two lines that go to it. If there is an oil cooler, then 4. Follow the line, smaller of the two that goes to the condensor, rad. With the fridge running, use your hand to feel how hot it is, if you find it hot enough that you can't leave you hand on that line, then its an inneficient compressor.

Freezer not freezing

check freezer for frost build up and if fan blowing, check condenser make sure clean, and fan blowing, check vents in refrig. make sure no blockage, controls should be in the middle setting, you can try turning freezer to Warmer freezer allowing MORE air to refrigertor side.
