In general, there are three main causes for this...
wrong needles (Singer), low quality thread (dual duty or all purpose), incorrect threading. Be sure to thread the needle from front to back.

My machine keeps on breaking the thread

You don't state which thread is breaking, so will assume it is the top thread.

AVOID using old or bargain bin thread!

Remove the thread.
Install a brand new needle.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning.
Verify the thread path is correct.
Set the top tension to the midway point (this may need to be tweaked for your individual machine).

If it still breaks, then the thread may be catching somewhere, perhaps on the needle plate or in the bobbin area. When a needle deflects, it will sometimes strike somewhere and cause a burr or rough spot. That rough spot will then catch the thread and cause it to break or shred.

Wrap your index finger with a fine piece of scrap fabric like chiffon, nylon knit, or silk. Then run your finger around the surface (top & bottom) of the needle plate and in the bobbin area. If the fabric catches, there is a burr. Also check the hook/shuttle as this where a lot of burrs are located. If it is a small burr, it can be smoothed with a fine emery board or emery cloth. It the burr is large, the part may need to be replaced.

The top tread breaks after about 1inch when trying to do chain stich on my janome cover stich machine

Could be the result of several things. There could be some gunk or threads stuck in the tension disk. Be sure to remove the thread and rethread from the beginning in the order specified. ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading!!!! If you haven't tried a brand new needle, do so, and make sure it is pushed all the way up and installed with the flat side facing the correct direction. Some machines recommend #90 as the largest needle to use. Also, perhaps the needle eye is too small to accommodate the thread. Watch where the thread is breaking to give you an idea of where the problem may originate. Try a different brand of thread. Sometimes black thread causes issues because the heavy dye affects the thread. Set the tensions at the midway point and then loosen the tension on that one needle. There could also be a burr or rough spot somewhere along the threadpath that is catching the thread. Last idea--could be a timing issue.

I am using a finesse 356 sewing machine and the thread keeps on breaking off at the needle. What could be the problem?

Could be threaded wrong. Could be tension too tight. Could be a bad needle. Could be bad thread (avoid old thread or bargain bin thread). The fabric, needle, and thread may not be compatible, ie the thread is too large for the needle's eye, could be incorrect thread for the fabric, the fabric may be too coarse and is wearing the thread and causing it to break... There could be a burr or nick somewhere that is catching the thread. The thread could be hanging up somewhere in the thread path on the way from the spool to the needle causing it to break when it reaches the needle.

My sewing machine keep sewing a little bit but breaks the thread everytime the bottom thread is at 0 and 1 my top thread is at 2 or 3 and the top thread breaks please tell me what wrong I am new too.

possibly the top thread is being restricted in movement
check that the thread is between the tension plates and not behind it or knotted up in the way it is threaded
pull on the needle thread and it should move with a steady pull not very hard
if it is not moving fairly easily the check how you have the thread installed
also old thread will break easily as the bonding used to keep the strands together breaks down and is difficult for the thread to slide though the needle
another point is the needle to hook timing and the clearance there as well .
if there is a problem there , the hook will split the thread from the needle and break it
if you still have problems , take it to a sewing machine service center ( any one ) and they will advise of the problem and show you how to fix it

My needle threads keep on breaking, I don't know what to do

  • Check the tension of the upper thread. If it's too tight, the pressure on the thread will cause it to break.
  • Check the thread you are using. If you're using two different kinds (one on top and one in the bobbin) that difference can cause the threads to break.
  • Are you using the proper thread for the job? Using a thin or light thread for sewing heavy fabric can lead to breakage.
  • Are you using the correct needle? Sewing knits with a sharp needle or sewing woven fabrics with a knit or ballpoint needle can also cause the thread to snap.
  • Is your machine threaded correctly? Incorrect threading can be another cause for thread breakage.
I hope this helps.

The top thread breaks

1. the needle thread is not threaded properly

2. The needle thread tension is to tight

3. The needle is bent or blunt

4. The needle is incorrectly inserted

5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew

6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing

7. The thread is either to heavy or to fine for the needle

8. Try a different spool or cone of thread

Top thread keeps snapping on consew 230b

Top thread snapping. Do you have an idea of there it is breaking?

First I would check the needle throat plate and needle. If you have stab marks on your needle plate, examine it closely for a crack. (get out the magnifying glass or jewelers loop) I recently fixed a problem I had with an old singer that kept breaking the top thread by replacing the needle plate. The old needle plate was so damaged it had actually made a knife edge which consistently cut the thread right at that location.

Change your needle and make sure it is the proper size for your thread. Too narrow of an eye can shred the thread causing it to break.

Next, check anything along your threading process that could be catching or snagging the thread. A worn or chipped thread guide can be a real problem.

Also make sure your thread hasn't dropped down below your thread cones and wrapped around the thread spindle. This would cause extra tension that might not be readily apparent.

Good luck

Change your needle, make sure the needle is new. and change your thread. Use a high quality thread and rethread the machine carefully, following all the guides. Also, check your tensions. I bet it is the needle tho.

I don't know for sure, but I have found that a dull needle will cause the thread to break. We have fixed many machines just by changing the needle. Try it, it may fix the problem.
