Question about Toshiba 50HP66 50 in. Plasma Television
Today, my wife was watching tv and suddenly, it went black. now the tv does not even turn on. the red power light does not even come on. it is not an outlet issue. other devices work on the outlet.
how do ficx the problem without spending a lot of money on it? i think i'm pretty handy so i cna replace the damage parts myself. however, i do not know the parts i hsould replace.
Actually, I replaced the main power supply board and the tv is working now. I paid $140 for a new board and replaced the fuse. The tv turned on right away.

We were first told it was the power suppy source and after waiting 2 weeks to get the power supply source that did not fix it they think it is the Sein Board...$900 problem on a TV that is less than 3 years old. The Sein Board was ordered 3 weeks ago and the repair man said it is on back order and will not be in until the end of October....If there are enough Toahiba 50 plasma's with the same problem Toshiba should help out with the repair!

This answer is for sjmhan: It sounds like you have a fault on the power supply board of the tv. Please before you open up your tv find out how to take basic precautions against electrical shock and how to discharge capacitors safely. First check if there is a glass fuse inside of the set and if it has blown replace it with one of the same rating. If you replace the fuse and it blows straight away or it still does not come on then it could be quite a few things. Either a faulty resistor or diode or voltage regulator or even the mains transformer itself. One word of warning: NEVER toucch any of the pins of the transformer as this cannot be tested directly without specialist equipment. If you find that it all is too complicated for you then dont feel like you have failed just re-assemble it and find a competant technician. Good luck.
Kimlong: I think you have a faulty component on the power supply board most likely a faulty diode. If you can check this for yourself otherwise find a competant technician. Hope this helps.
