See if there is a break in the ribbon cable.Place a light behind the ' ribbon ' so that you can see the the wires in the tape. If you see a break in the wire inside the ' ribbon ', you will have to ' jump ' the break with a wire soldered to each side of the break. You must strip ( vary carefully ) the plastic on EACH SIDE OF THE BREAK to reach the metel conduct. If you can, strip the plastic or melt it over the break and ' dap ' it with solder to reconnect the break.
Be careful because the ribbon with the electrical cable inside is very thin and fragil

Portable dvd player dropped now has sound and faint picture

I usually prefer to fix things but here unless this is a very expensive unit let it go, it did enough damage to cause image issues and a screen hinge broken, if it can be repaired it will always be prone to some collateral issues that may show up later, like a small car in a accident, no matter how good the repair place is it will never be quite the same.

I brought my daughter a dora the explorer tv/dvd combo dte313 and she broke her remote so im not able to switch from tv to video or get all the cable channels. what should i do?

Hello and thanks for using Fixya.com ..Most remotes are able to withstand droppage .If remote was dropped and if your kinda handy. You can try to pry open the remote .Lots of remote have simple issues like ,bad solder joints battery terminal bad .If not the other option id to take remote to a local tv shop and ask if they can try to fix it .This will usually cost you a few dollars. But this is better than ordering a new remote.Last option would be to order a remote or try to find a universal remote that will work with your set..Goodluck

Sylvania (SRD3900) DVD Player / VCR Combo i can't seem to plug in the red/white/yellow cables into the right places directly to my old toshiba tv to play either tapes or dvds. can you instruct me? thanks.

Greetings - It's very simple so I'll show you how and then I think it may be another problem (nothing broken).

You need to plug the corresponding color cables into to outputs on your player I've circled above and then into the corresponding inputs on the TV. You've probably done this correctly.
PLUS - You have to, using the remote for the player, set the source to either DVD or VCR and then you have to, finally, on your TV set the input (with the remote) to what is called probably VIDEO or VIDEO1. If there is still nothing on the screen keep (with the DVD or Tape playing) hitting the TV remote input button until you see an image or you've come around to where you started.

Unless something is broken (unlikely) you should be able to watch DVD's or Tapes depending on what input you select on the player.

If it's not working you've somehow missed a step or the Video input on the TV is called something else. If that happens come back here and give the player AND TV brand/model info and someone will be able resolve your problem.

Good Luck and thanks for using Fix Ya.

I have the TruTech LMD-5702RT Portable DVD Player. The auxilary screen has no picture when it is plugged in. It has sound, but no picture. The brightness adjustment will still take the screen from light to...

The cable that connects the two is a 4 pole cable, which means that some of the poles are used for video and others for audio (stereo left and right). My kids broke the cable within a week of having the device and I had to bend the cable back and forth to get a picture to show up. I finally ordered a new cable from here: http://www.techcables.com/6-ft-3-5mm-4-pole-mini-av-to-mini-av-camcorder-a-v-cable-p-36.html

Try e-bay.  Look for units that are broken for parts only.  I was looking for a battery.

you've probably over extended the the flat wirecable that powers the screen inside the dvd player by opening the screen too far. Open the dvd player as if putting in a dvd, now look in the right hand upper corner and you'll see a white flat wire, this wire is probably your problem. open the dvd player and look at the connection, the wire should be crooked, push the wire into the connection securely and the screen should come on. check it out!! Yes they are surface mounted componets and without a schematic and an ocilliscope I think it will be near impossible to find the trouble if the problem is an IC. If you have access to a scope try tracing the video signal from the RCA output jacks and see where you see it come up. Good Luck
