Does not print evenly. Some lines are very faint. Have done calibration and cleaned print head several times. Prints from internet and e-mails okay. But does print from Simply Accounting, tax software...

Hi,

Welcome to FixYa.

Since you have already performed calibration and cleaned the printhead, kindly verify that the ink cartridges are not damaged and are completely seated in the printhead:

1. Lift the printer access door, then remove the ink cartridges from the printhead.

2. Verify that the labels on the ink cartridges are intact, and that the cartridges are not damaged.

3. Verify that the KODAK Ink Cartridges have not been refilled.

4. Insert the black ink cartridge into the printhead, then press down firmly until you hear it click into position.

5. Insert the color ink cartridge into the printhead, then press down firmly until you hear it click into position.

6. Close the printer access door.

7. Check the printer status monitor on your computer (or the LCD screen on the printer) to determine if there is sufficient ink available for your print job.

NOTE: When the "Black ink cartridge is low" or "Color ink cartridge is low" message is displayed, print quality can be affected.

8.Reprint the original picture or document that had the quality problem.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa.

My printer says it has an ink system failure. I dont know what to do it tells me to turn it off then back on and thats what i do but the same thing keeps happening. I dont know what to do with it.

This printer has separate ink cartridges and printheads. Below the place where the ink cartridges are inserted is the ink system. It has a small PCB on it that holds optron sensors that can sense whenever a cartridge is empty. If there is a ink leakage from a refilled cartridge, the ink goes on that PCB and literally eat the copper conductors. It make also shortages and burns to SMD mounted electronic elements. This PCB is part of the entire ink system, that includes the plastic holder for the cartridges, a motor that drives the pumps and the pumping mechanics.
Open the printer, take that PCB out and give it a good alcohol clean. Then dry it well with compressed air. Test it whether it works. Replace the entire ink station if it doesn't.

Showing Check Ink U051 COL. Have removed the

Hi there

For troubleshooting purposes,
Perform the following:

1. Open the printer and remove all ink tanks.

2. Insert a single ink tank in the printer then close the cover.

3. Confirm whether the printer recognizes the installed tank
properly. If it does, it will indicate it does not detect the other ink tanks, as
they are not currently installed in the printer.

4. Repeat steps 1-3 with another ink tank.

5. If the printer at any time indicates two of the same ink tanks are
installed, the cause will be the last tank installed. For example, if
you inserted an ink tank earlier, and you later inserted another ink
tank, and it said two of the same inks were installed, the cause of
the issue is the last ink tank.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

just try to remove and re-insert the cartridge in a way that you get a click sound in the printer. it means you have done the job completely. (or)
try re-installing the software .
i am assuming you are using the original epson cartridges.

Epson printer says "cannot recognize ink cartridges".

Are you using genuine epson cartridges? Many generics simply dont work on the newer printers. Once the printer decides the cartridge is empty, it sends a signal to the chip and that's it. You might hear ink, but if the chip says empty you can't use it. It also has the annoying habit of doing this when there's still 10-15% of the ink left.
I use reusable cartridges from http://www.ccs-digital.com They hold 2/3 more ink and the chips automatically reset to full if you remove and re-insert the cartridge. Instead of replacing the entire cartridge when it's empty, you pop out an internal ink tank and replace just that. So you know the chip has already been recognized by your printer. The ink tanks cost under $3. I think these are a brilliant invention.

Dont know how to change colour cartridges

Turn the printer on and open the lid. After a short while, the printer carriage unit containing the print head and ink cartridges will stop right in the middle of the printer, so you can easily replace the ink cartridges. After replacing them and ensuring they're fully seated, simply close the lid. The printer will run a few quick self-diagnostic checks and run a purge cycle, and it'll be good to go.

I loaded the black ink like I have done so many times before, but a window is coming up saying it does not recognize my color catridge and will not print. I dont even have a color cartridge in the printer.

Some printers will not print while missing either of the cartridges, was the printer working without the colour cartridge before?
Try inserting a colour cartridge and see if that helps.

Bought compatible ink

It's likely the chip. They can evidently get confused like the rest of us! Previous fixes were to replace the driver. No luck with me so I did what I was told by an idependant printer engineer and simply replace the offending colour cartridge. Hey Presto. Fortunately I was using Canons inks and they are going to replace it.

Incorrect ink level reading

kiwipom, While ink cartridges look like plastic cups that only hold ink...they are not. The information the printer needs to think it has a "NEW" set of ink cartridges is on the cartridge itself. You must fakeout the printer to believe you are inserting "new lexmark" inks. Printer companies make money from the repeated sale of the ink, not the printer itself. I had an old epson that I would refill I would then have to place pieces of tape on the cartridge turn the printer on, remove the cartridge move the tape to another side of the cartridge turn on again etc. Anyway lexmark may need the same. When the new original cartridges show try them first to get the printer "thinking" correctly. Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim
