Answer was simple- - -went to Canon Europe website, clicked downloads where there was one to facilitate running the scanner software on Visa. Should have thought of that in first place- - sorry to have troubled you.

Is Sony Vaio PCV 6603 wireless enabled to connect to net via router?? If it isn't, is it possible to "upgrade" it to be wireless enabled?

It may be wireless enabled. Even if it isn't, then you may install wireless NIC (network interface card) that will help to retrieve the wireless signals.

Upgrading the OS Windows XP not possible

Upgrading from OS Windows XP:

you can upgrade from Windows XP to Windows Vista(ultimate, premium, home, business.......),
you have to buy a Windows Vista CD and install a fresh copy or format.

Some Minimum Requirements:

i) Min 2GB RAM or atleast 1GB RAM(if you have>1GB RAM installation of Windows Vista will not continue)

II) External Graphic Card. for some versions of Windows Vista(to run Aero Interface, special feature only   in some versions of Windows Vista)

NOTE:

"Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor" is a software from Microsoft which you can download from internet, this  can help you determine which features and edition of Windows Vista will run on your computer.

i.e., when u load this software on windows xp it will suggest which upgrade version of windows vista          will suit your system(based on you system configuration. or hardware components.) and then            you can install the upgraded version of windows xp(mostly windows vista home,.........)

Thanking You

The best thing to do is go to the manufacturers website and see if they made a driver for vista.

Actually I just went to the site and they don't offer a vista driver. New scanner for you buddy. that's Microsoft's way of continuing the monopoly. make everybody upgrade to their standards.
