Question about Samsung Computers & Internet
My laptop hdd was having problems so was going to take data off it then reload windows.
-I installed the harddrive into my desktop PC using a IDE conversion adapter
- I accidenataly applied 12V to it rather than 5V so burned it out.
- I am going to replace the burned out component on the cct board of hdd because I need that data.
- does anybody know what the usual component on the cct board of the hdd burns out and where it might be located?
I have a hm120j, unfortunatly i dont have a photo of the platters, but the drives are horrible if moved or rotated whilst being written too at full speed they will scratch the platters and instantly destroy the drive which happend to mine in my laptop, as it was lifted up from a desk during a transfer, unacceptable, altho what im saying may not sound relivant, my reccomendation is forget the drive even if you do fix it its still a horrific drive, if the data on it is very important, you can take it to a hdd/data expert who can extract the platters and read them. do not open the drive yourself as you will instantly destroy it, hopefully this helps, excuse the typos

Components normaly burn out due to power surge or over volt situation or over current situation.
