That depends on which model compressor you have. However, you can easily check this online, if you know the model number. The website linked here will allow you to choose your model, then download an instruction manual, and look up the engine lubrication specifications.
It's usually about a liter for a 4 gallon tank compressor.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

Eagle iron horse 80 gallon tank 6.5 hp motor takes long time to pump up air seems like compressor is working overtime

long overdue for an answer. likely a split valve plate gasket or split interstage tube. cover the inlet filter on each cylinder with your hand. If good suction, it is ok. If it has low suction or is blowing hot air out, you have a valve or gasket problem.

What level should the oil be in the view sight and what type of oil should be used to fill if needed?

Your oil level should be right in the middl of the sight glass as per the type of oil I'm sure Craftsman has there brand of oil they suggest. But any good quality compressor oil will work.

You are looking for about 5 H.P. to do that, but what is more important is the r.p.m. of the motor, the size of the pulley,,, and the size of the compressor pulley! most manufactures will spec the pump for certain horse power,,, they go hand in hand,,, for example you cannot take a pump designed for 5 H.P. and hook a 10 H.P. motor and a bigger pulley on it and spin the pump faster to make more air,,, it wont take that high of speed,,, I hope this helps.

How do you check oil level on a u20 ir compressor do you check sight glass while machine is running or while in off mode?

Hi
No mate, you check it when the pump is not running.
Don't over fill it or it will pump oil into the tank.
That's bad news if you want to paint.
The middle of the sight glass is the correct level.
Don't let the oil get too low either.
The pump lubricates by a dipper on the bottom of the conrods. Too low an oil level starves the top end of oil and causes premature wear.

Over service craftsman air compressor with oil

Just find the drain plug and drain out some of the oil and put the plug back at the right time to get about the correct oil level.

The drain plug may be the sight window itself, if you can't find one.

If you need more help, post a comment.

Thanks,

Air Compressor question

No, When an air compressor is built, it requires a motor or engine to power the process of producing air. The horsepower is not the only component of the equation. It has to be combined with the compressor pump that it runs to produce the air needed. The bigger the horsepower does not necessarily mean more air. Remember to keep your required cfm in mind. Horsepower does not make you work more efficiently, but horsepower working in unison with a quality pump that produces enough cfm for your needs. Make sure when shopping that you look for the running horsepower and not the peak horsepower you get at startup. Some manufacturers have falsely advertised or implied the peak horsepower to be the normal run horsepower. At start-up, there is a surge of power needed to start the motor and can be 1.5-3 times the amount of running power needed. This means the horsepower need for the motor peaks as well, but then drops back down to normal. Many of these manufacturers are involved in a class-action lawsuit for misrepresentation. They have used man’s machismo of “the more horsepower, the better” to their advantage to make sales. These aren’t cars we’re talking about!
