Built-In Flash Not Working

The built-in flash on my Sony DSC-F717 is not working. I have always had it set to forced flash. It used to be hit & miss, but now it won't flash at all.

I have also been experiencing problems with the "pop up" flash on my camera. It use to work fine when in "green" mode but now not at all. Is this maybe a mechanical problem or more serious technical fault?

Hi, I am certainly not an expert, however, I was having problems with that also. In addition, my viewfinder was almost black & white with a greenish tinge.

Come to find out there is a reset button inside where the battery is. You might try taking the battery out and leaving it out for 5 min. or so and see if this works. It fixed mine but not the screen. Then I tried the reset and that did not work. Then I took the battery out and then it worked!

When you reset the camera, you will have to re-enter your setting, ei, dates, etc.

Hope this helps.

My sony cybershot dsc-w310 is not flashing

I'm sorry that the built in flash on the Camera is not working. If the Forced flash setting is already enabled and the flash is still not working, then the issue may be due to another camera setting. Even if the Forced flash setting is enabled, the flash will still not work in the following circumstances:
  • When shooting MPEG movies
  • When shooting in the Twilight or Handheld Twilight mode
  • If shooting with the Burst or Multi Burst mode
  • Shooting with Sweep Panorama
  • Shooting with the Fireworks or High Sensitivity mode.
  • If an external flash is connected.

Please make sure that the Camera is not set to any of these modes. You can check the Handbook to get the information to change the setting.. Click hear to download the Handbook if you don't have one handy.

If the issue persists, please Initialize the Camera. To initialize the Camera, please use the Initialize option under Main Settings option on the Camera. Also make sure that the battery is fully charged.
If the issue persists after performing all the above mentioned troubleshooting steps, service is required. Click hear to locate your nearest service center.

My sony cyber-shot DSC-H10 flash stopped working. The flash pops up like it is going to work, but does not flash. I can take pictures but with noflash. Can you help me?

You flash is in ' Flash forced OFF ' position.Press on the flash control button repeatedly until one of the four modes are selected.

1.Flash Auto - Flashes when there is insufficient light or backlight ( Default Setting )

2.Flash forced on

3.Slow synchro - The shutter speed is slow in a dark place to clearly shoot the background that is out of flash light.

4.Flash forced off - ( Your current mode ).The flash automatically pops up and strobes when using the flash.Close the flash by hand after use.

My camera flashes lightnot working how can i fix it?

Hi,

If the built in flash does not function, then the Camera flash may be turned off or ot is set to Auto and will only flash when the taking pictures in poorly lit environments. To turn on the flash so it works regardless of the lighting conditions, press the flash button on the Camera until the Forced Flash icon appears on the LCD screen. The flash button on the Camera has a lightning bolt symbol on it.
If the Forced Flash setting is already enabled and the flash is still not working, then the issue may be due to another camera setting. Even if the Forced flash setting it enabled, the flash will still not work in the following settings.
When shooting movies.
When shooting in the Twilight or Handheld Twilight mode.
When shooting with the Burst or Multi Burst mode.
Shooting with the Fireworks or high sensitivity mode. (ISO)
Following the above steps should resolve the issue. However, if the issue persists try resetting the Camera back to factory settings and specifications.
Try power resetting the Camera to check if it resolves the issue. To power reset the Camera, turn off the Camera and remove the battery pack. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Remain the Camera without power for 60 seconds and reinsert the battery.
This should resolve the issue.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I bought a Sony DSC t700 approximately 6 months

If the built-in flash does not function, then the camera may be set to Auto and will only flash when taking pictures in poorly illuminated environments.
To set the camera to the Forced flash setting so it will flash regardless of the surrounding brightness, press the UP ARROW on the control button until a lightning bolt icon appears on the LCD screen.

If the Forced flash setting is already enabled and the flash is still not working, then the issue may be due to another camera setting. Even if the Forced flash setting is enabled, the flash will still not work in the following circumstances:
When shooting MPEG movies
When set to the Twilight mode
If an external flash is connected
If in the Burst or Multi Burst mode

Please touch the MENU option on the screen of the Camera.
Then, select the REC MODE under the MENU.
Then, select NORMAL under the REC MODE.

If you're not able to select the NORMAL under the REC MODE, try Initializing the Camera.

First, please touch the HOME on the LCD screen of the Camera.
Then, select the SETTINGS in the HOME menu.
Then, select the MAIN SETTINGS under the SETTINGS.
Then, select the Initialize under the MAIN SETTINGS.

If the issue still persists after performing the troubleshooting steps provided above service of the Camera is required.

It's required to physically examine the Camera to determine the exact issue at the service center.

Memory stick error

Hi There, In the menu there should be a setting to set the camera back to factory. Try re-formatting the card. Try using a different card. The camera has some built in memory, take card out and shoot 2 pics on built in memory, is playback ok?
If not, card reader may be defective. Only service shop could tell you that for sure.
Let me know, mr cicmo.

Flash doesn't work

The fault may be a simple setting that may have been changed, have you checked your Manual to see if you can disable the flash? Is the flash disabled?

If no, take it to a Camera Repair shop (can be sent through any Camera Retailer) and get a quote to fix it, then decide whether it is economical to fix or better to buy another camera.

Note: this is still a "good" camera for it's features, so don't rush out and buy another camera unless you really want to.

Good luck.
