Question about Radian Technologies SkyTone RST201 IP Phone

1 Answer

When someone calls in, Skypemate takes up 99% of the CPU.

The computer comes to a halt until I exit out of Skypemate. Also, when I try to answer the phone by picking up the handset, it keeps on ringing and won't answer. I've got the latest software for both Skypemate and Skype and have reinstalled both of them.

    It was an excellent thought, however, a scan revealed nothing. But when I exit out of Skypemate/Skytone the computer goes back to normal. I can then load Skypemate/Skytone again and won't have any problems until someone calls in and leaves voicemail. It appears to be largely revolving around anyone calling in or leaving voicemail.

    I have been "living" with this problem of 100% CPU usage by SkypeMate for years. The problem is intermittent, and only occurs once in an unpredictable while and is triggered by an incoming call (but not every incoming call). The only solution I have is cntrl-alt-del to open task manger, then manually terminate SkypeMate, close task manager and relaunch a new SkypeMate process. This bug has been in every Skypemate version I'v used for 3 or 4 years (maybe 5 years).

Cpu fan works, power supply fan works why wont' computer come on?

Could be a number of reasons:
The CPu fan and the PSU fans will come on, even though the system is not working. There is a possibility that the CPU has blown, you can check this easily by (carefully) feeling the heatsink after it has been running a while. A dead CPU will not use power and therefore not heat up. If after say 10 minutes of running, the heatsink is clay cold, suspect the CPU. Replace with another one, spreading CPU grease on the top before putting the heatsink back on.

A blown CPU will usually be indicated bu there being NO beeps from the system (see below)

If the CPU appears to be generating heat, visually inspect the board, look for blown or blowing capacitors (the small cylinder like components) on the motherboard, any that are bulging or leaking a brown residue, or have blown, will render the motherboard inoperative.

If these appear ok (they still may be damaged), unplug all components except the hard drive, and ram and video card, see if the system then boots. If it does, proceed to re-installation of each in turn, until the faulty peripheral halts the boot.

Listen for any beeps as the ssytem switches on these beeps describe the type of problem
(repost if you hear any beeps)

Remove one stick of ram and try rebooting, if it works, suspect the ram module, try the other and see if that makes any difference.

Failing that, your last recourse is to power the system off, remove the bios battery, replace after 2 minutes and see if clearing the Cmos "unsticks" the computer.

After That, suspect the motherboard is dead.

Hmm. Any computer running Windows 98 was manufactured between 1998 and 2000, i.e., well over TEN years ago.

So, you probably have a "hardware" problem, either:
* bad RAM
* dying CPU
* dying motherboard
* dying disk-drive

Download the free 'MEMTEST86+' software, and burn it onto a CD-R.
Start the computer, and tell it to boot from the CD-R disk.
This will run an exhaustive test of your RAM (and, as a byproduct, your CPU). Any "failures" usually point to bad RAM,
and any "freeze" or "lockup" usually point to a dying motherboard.

CPU Fan Error. System Halted in asus P5SD2-VM

(CPU fan error, system halted). This is a safety feature so as not to fry the CPU.
Odds are the that the CPU fan either real dirty or the fan is going bad which means you'll need to replace the heat sink assembly.
You can buy an OEM CPU heat-sink assembly, see below.

See page 1-11 to 1-12 in your manual.
CPU Intel socket 775 (removing). See video below.

Processor in incorrect slot system halted error

Hello,

You don't see this often but when you do it means your cpu is not in cpu slot 1. (Usually you are also running 1 processor in your server.) Just move the cpu to the other slot, power on your server and you should be good to go. Be sure to only touch the edge of the cpu and not any of the chips in the middle.

Good Luck

Firefox

Solution:

i) see it depends how application(fire fox) is using CPU or processor, even though nothing is running in the background, firefox will utilize CPU(like background work with going between firefox and CPU or processor which we may not intercept......)

ii) if u are so curious about why it is i will ask you to see a process in Task Manager called "System Idle Process" which will consume about 99 or 90 %(which is a process is not required or doesnot have anything to applications but still it will 99 or 90% percent of CPU) see it has background work with CPU or processor which is not understandabl e by a common person...

iii) i u still think that this is not the right answer try to uninstall fireforx and renistall and check it,  or try some other browser like opera and check whether it is upto your expectations and continue using it and maintain some peace of mind .........

Thankin you

BootBlock BIOS v1.0 BIOS ROM checksum error

Kevin, when you do get this going it is going to be a beast.Nice choices on the hardware. It appears that you are getting text in the bios menu and that is a real good sign. One bit of text you typed might be a clue." You typed Detecting floppy drive A media . . .
Drive A error. System halt" And you said that you had no Floppy. On the first screen were you see your time etc there will be something that says halt on all errors. Change that to halt on keyboard errors only. The wording may be different but you get the gist right?You don't want the bios seeing no floppy and halting on that.I hope this helps you and don't get discouraged. There is usually a simple answer.

CMOS Error 0193

The security device plugs into the left front of the MB as viewed from the front. It is approximately 1.5" x 2 inches in size. they sometimes come loose form the socket when a system is moved. Open the case and see if it is there and loose. If completely gone, then you need to contact your MB supplier for either the device, a new board or a factory reprogram of the board to disable the missing device.
