Uh, hold the black headshell with one hand. With the other, twist the bumpy ringlock on the tonearm gently clockwise. Slide the cartridge out. You should be facing the TT.

The tone-arm on my turntable automatically stops too early. Is there any way to fix this?

Yes. you need to set the travel on your arm. I don't know your specific model but they are all the same concept. On the back by the pivot point there should be a small screw that you can adjust the travel before it returns.

Needle slides across record

It could be 3 different things. The first is check the needle make sure its not dirty. the second is make sure the weight is set correctly. And the third is did you take the tone arm off the protective part that holds the tone arm in place when moving or travelling .

I've just set up my Technics SL D212 turntable after moving house. It keeps skidding across records. I've tried the usual adjustments and leveled the turntable. Any clues?

Please make 100% certain the needle is still in place... To test this *GENTLY* rub your fingertip over it and you should hear noise from the speakers when you do. If there is NO noise then there is likely no needle.
Did you put the protective device on the needle/arm for the move? Is it still on there?
Sorry Mate, that the only thing I've got to help....

It's doesnt scratch?

It doesnt scratch well you have to set your turntable up for scratching meaning adding more weight on the needle taping a penny to it the weight of the tone arm take it off and put it on backwards i also suggest wax paper and trace around you slipmat put the wax paper outline down then then slip mat . but you main problem is theres not enough weight keeping the needle on the record. or you scratching is completely wrong. i sugguest taking the weight on the tone arm and flip it around and ull have plenty of weight also , youtube man thousands of videos on how to scratch properly. best of luck if u are still stuck feel free to email me djredskyy@gmail.com im guessing your new to djing

Just bought a new Shure high performance stylus for my Technics SL-1200MK2. After a few weeks of use, while a record is playing the volume on the left channel will drop significantly. If I take the...

it could be two things:
1.the tone arm wires that connect to the head shell (blue-red-green-white i think)
2. the needle arm has twisted round
Put it on the other deck if you've got one & see if it does it.
look right at the end of the needle tip,& see if it's straight & pointing down, if not carefully twist the needle arm round until it is,& push it into back in to the cartridge a little bit.

Technics sl 1200 MK2 WEAK SOUND

Regarding the poor sound quality (and possibly the skipping):
check the needle condition, see if exchanging it with a needle (or the entire pickup head) from a working turntable does any good.

Check the pickup connection pins (contacts on the pickup head and on the end of the wires coming through the arm from the unit), see if there is any dirt or oxydation and clean the contacts if necessary, also check for any damage to the wires.

As for the skipping - a heavily worn needle may affect the sound quality and cause skipping as well - if cahnging the needle (or the pickup head) doesn't make a change, try to realign the weight on the tone arm so that the pickup head will become a bit heavier, this could help somewhat (before you actually try to realign the weight, try to put a small coin or a small weight of some kind on the pickup head while it is playing a record, if the skipping goes away, you need to realign the tone arm weight).

This could also be a problem with the tone arm lifting mechanism (may be obstructed by something or damaged so it won't let the tone arm sit properly onto the record and "grab" the groove).

I just mentioned a few things you might want to check, but don't take anything for granted, the problem may as well be elsewhere in the unit.

regards

Sears Tape deck/Turn table skipping!

Hi the pennies will mess up the stylus. There should be an anti skate setting at the back of the turn table, a round adjustable bit with numbers, increase the anti skate and then use the balance weigth (weight right at the back of the arm that turns to get the weight right. Set the anti skate with the tone arm light, then increase the weight a bit. Hope that helps
