If the drum is tight to turn ,then the main bearings have probably seized, or their could be something fast in the drum. Remove belt, and try to turn the drum by hand , it shuold be free with no resitance.
If it is noisy or feels rough, then the bearings have gone.

Hotpoint aquarius wd420 cannot stretch drive belt on there is no slide bar on motor which is fixed solid even after bolts are lossened its a washer drier no obvious way of attaching belt

There is no adjustment provided for tensioning belt as it is a stretch belt.
Best way to do it is to remove the rear panel, tilt the weaher forwards, get someone to hold it for you.
Put belt round motor pulley first, then slowiy feed it round the drum pulley, turning the drum pulley at the same time, it will be very tight, so watch your fingers, just keep going until belt is on, if it comes off, just start over
You can line it up properly in the motor pulley grooves once you have got the belt on.
Please rate my solution.
Thankyou.

Spin the drum by hand, it make metal noise

Remove the rear lower panel of washer, and remove the drum belt.
From the front of the washer, spin the drum by hand, and if it feels rough or is rumbling, could be the drum bearings are going.
If there is something caught, it will make a completely different kind of noise, more like a catching or rubbing noise.
If no noise, then could be the motor that is casing the noise.
Hope this helps.

Hotpoint motor problem after renewing drum bearings!

Hi dave, Its nothing you have done! It will need the carbon brushes changed in the motor as they have got low. The arcing is caused by the brushes not touching the com properly. Just change them and it will be all good.....

Drum not turning

If you are certain that the motor was turning, then the only things that come to mind are that:
  1. The belt is stretched or worn-Replace as there is no adjustment.
  2. The drum is stalled, either because it has seized, or there is something stuck in the drum.
  3. The motor brushes are worn, and will not cope with load of drum, check brushes.
Try running it on fast spin without the belt on , if it spins o/k, then that would indicate the motor is o/k.
Please leave a fixya rating for my solution.
Thanks.

Hotpoint Aquarius WMA37 - the drum is not turning, even by hand

Remove rear panel of washer, slip the belt off, then try the drum to see if it turns, if it does, then the motor is the problem, if it does not, then the main bearings have siezed, or there is something fast between the inner and outer drum..
If it was noisy on spin prior to this happening, then it is more than likely the main bearings that have siezed.
Plz rate my solution.

Thanks.

Removal of door seal on hotpoint washer drier wd420

You will achieve nothing by removing the door seal .
Depending what is in there, better to leave alone and trust it will find its way into the filter.
If it is anything substantial then it involves major work.

WASHING MACHINE DRUM WILL NOT TURN

There is no adjustment provided for lining up the pulleys.
If it comes off then there are a couple of reasons that come to mind, the belt is too slack, the belt is worn, the drum is out of alignment with the motor pulley, caused by worn drum bearings, the motor is loose, a loose drum pulley, or you are not lining the belt up properly, overloading can also throw the belt off.
Hope this helps.
Plz leave feedback.
