Maybe It NEVER showed the image,as I always use the viewfinder! Nikon website says its not possible to view image while taking a photo, because of the SLR mirror and sensor set-up..it was only pointed out to me when i loaned camera to some-one who normally uses a COMPACT digital camera, and I think that got me suspecting a problem..that never existed?

Try to reset the camera.

RESET
: Find the * QUAL and +/- * buttons on the top of the camera. Hold them both down for a few seconds. The top LCD blinks and everything is back to normal.

Yes, that's correct that you cannot really view it while taking a shot of the photo, better check the photo after you're done and those should be save on your camera, and there's really no problem. that's really how the camera works...

LCD Display Blank

I have a sony cybershot DSC-S650, the LCD was very dark and could not see anything except if I pointed it at a bright object, everything else worked ok. I could take pictures but could barely see them in playback as well.

I took it to Sony authorised repair outlet and was told the CCD was damaged, they charged me USD $55 to repair it (in Quito, Ecuador)

Blank LCD screen on shooting mode, but does show settings. Will not take pictures. Replaying mode works, shows pictures taken before screen went blank. New batteries. What is going on??? Is it...

The Display button manually turns the LCD display on or off to save batteries. If you accidentally had turned the LCD off, It should only take one press of the button to turn it back on and leave it that way. As such, it's not you but the camera. The A570 IS is relatively new. Your camera is likely still under warranty. If so, contact Canon for warranty repair (see the following link):

LCD Screen Black/Blank. ? ? ?

Perhaps you have quick view turned off in the setup menus. There's no way the CCD is the problem as the camera takes pictures.

LCD monitor is blank

Canon would have to fix this for you. The fault may be the screen itself, or the LCD viewfinder drive IC on the camera's circuit board. In this case they will replace the circuit board.

LCD Display

If you mean you see no picture on the lcd monitor before you take the picture and see it only after you have taken it than this is normal with digital SLRs. But if you mean you see nothing on the lcd monitor after you have taken a picture ( no playback ) then either the shutter is not working , or the CMOS sensor is not working or the camera is not communicating with CF card.
