Personally, I wouldn't. I've seen more people have problems because they removed a program they shouldn't have.
Or a removal tool they use removes more then it's supposed to, and they end up having to figure out what it broke.

A number of programs in windows "share" files. Some of the removal tools get a little too aggressive, and will not cross check to see if any other programs use a .dll or similar file.
They remove the program you are trying to remove, and you suddenly find out, 2 other programs stop working.

But the choice is yours. Sometime you can run them, and everything is fine. It's that once in a blue moon chance that bad things happen.
Before using a removal tool, find reviews on it, or feed back from people that have used it and see if there are ever any problems with it.

How to get rid of the ask toolbar?

To uninstall Ask toolbar from your computer, you can follow the steps below:
1.To uninstall "Ask Toolbar" program from Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, click the "Start" button, then click on "Control Panel". If you are using Windows 8, drag your mouse pointer to the right edge of the screen, select "Search" from the list and search for "Control Panel".
2.When the "Control Panel" window opens click on the "Uninstall a program" option under "Programs" category.
(Note: If you are using the "Classic View" of the Control Panel, then you need to double-click on the "Programs and Features" icon instead.)
3.When the "Programs and Features" or the "Uninstall a Program" screen is displayed, scroll through the list of currently installed programs and uninstall "Ask Toolbar, Ask Toolbar Updater, Ask Updater" and any other recently installed or unknown programs.
Once you have successfully uninstalled the above mentioned applications from your system, you also need to reset your browser to remove Ask toolbar and Ask.com from the respective browser. To do this, refer to the steps listed below:
(Important: While resetting your browser(s), go through the on-screen instructions very carefully to understand what all changes will be made in your browser once it is reset.)

To reset Internet Explorer:
1.Open Internet Explorer, click on the "gear icon" in the upper right part of your browser, and then click on "Internet Options".
2.In the "Internet Options" dialog box, click on the "Advanced" tab, then click on the "Reset" button.
3.In the "Reset Internet Explorer settings" section, select the "Delete personal settings" check box, then click on the "Reset" button.
4.When Internet Explorer has completed its task, click on the "Close" button in the confirmation dialogue box. You will now need to close your browser, and then you can open Internet Explorer again.

To reset Mozilla Firefox:

1.In the upper-right corner of the Firefox window, click the Firefox menu button ( ), and then click on the "Help" ( ) button.
2.From the "Help" menu, choose "Troubleshooting Information".
(Note: If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting information page.)
3.Click the "Reset Firefox" button in the upper-right corner of the "Troubleshooting Information" page.
4.To continue, click on the "Reset Firefox" button in the new confirmation window that opens.
5.Firefox will close itself and will revert to its default settings. When it's done, a window will list the information that was imported. Click on the "Finish".
(Important: Your old Firefox profile will be placed on your desktop in a folder named "Old Firefox Data". If the reset didn't fix your problem you can restore some of the information not saved by copying files to the new profile that was created. If you don't need this folder any longer, you should delete it as it contains sensitive information.)

To reset Google Chrome:
Before resetting Google Chrome, you first need to remove Ask toolbar extensions from it, change your default search engine, and also change the homepage. To do this, refer to the following steps:

Im trying to change my antivirus it wont allow me to remove it,keeps pauseing and freezing

What anti-virus program are you using?

The first thing I would try is getting into safe mode and then trying to do the uninstall from there. To get into safe mode reboot your computer and continually hit F8 until a screen appears with the option to boot into "Safe Mode With Networking".

Some Anti-Virus programs can be very difficult to remove. Often the companie's web site will have a removal tool (Symantec, Norton, etc.). I would look there as well.

My laptop is very very slow please help I'm a newbie at pc's. Thank you! Gladys

Several things you can do:
1. Clean out all internet cache in browser.
2. Defragment disk/hard drive. Use Microsoft Explorer to do this.
3. Make sure you have ample disk drive space. If your memory is low the computer uses the disk drive to page data to and from memory, and this takes addition time..
4. Get a program(like Fix-it by Avanquest) that cleans up and defrags your registry. Be careful with this one you can destroy your computer, messing with the registry. This program will do everything mentioned above. Well worth the money and it has a virus, spyware and malware scanner and does a great job.
5. Add more memory.

I cant uninstall programs from the control panel... i keep getting message ghost uninstaller says installation log file can not be found

This means that a program that you may have uninstalled earlier might have removed this needed file. You can reinstall windows..if this is your platform and select the repair instead of full install inorder to place this file back in your system. Please give more information if this does not work for you. Good Luck..

It sounds like you have some how installed the dreaded my web search tool bar or one of its components. To fix, try this...

First, uninstall the My Web Search option from Add/Remove Programs
1) Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel
2) Double click on Add/Remove Programs
3) Find "My Web Search" in the list of installed programs and click on Change/Remove to uninstall it. You may also want to uninstall any of the following items associated with FunWebProducts.
  • My Web Search (Smiley Central or FWP product as applicable)
  • My Way Speedbar (Smiley Central or other FWP as applicable)
  • My Way Speedbar (AOL and Yahoo Messengers) (beta users only)
  • My Way Speedbar (Outlook, Outlook Express, and IncrediMail)
  • Search Assistant - My Way
4) Reboot your Computer and run HijackThis
5) With HijackThis, scan for and fix any of the entries shown above that may be remaining.
6) Next, open My Computer, Drive C, and double-click on the Program Files folder
7) Right-click and delete the folders for:
  • FunWebProducts
  • MyWebSearch
8) MyWebSearch should now be completely uninstalled from your computer.
9) There will be some minor registry entries left behind by the uninstall, however these can be cleaned up by running SpyBot Search and Destroy or Ad-Aware SE or left alone.

CD / DVD player not listed as device on Windows Explorer

I also have the same problem. I've tried all the above plus some added info. The floppy still works when I swap it with the DVD. Occasionally it works for a short time right after a hard boot but soon after it appears to uninstall. I have searched the net for answers to this problem without success. I tried the registry correction without avail. There has been some online comments that the problem appeared after an auto update from uSoft. I believe the problem is software or firmware related.
