Download (as in Save, not Run) the Norton Unistaller http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 Then go here http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/kbload.jsp?docurl=step_2007102605434976&selected_nav=1&pvid= and follow the instructions with some additional steps: Step 2.1 once you have the Uninstaller, the new installer and the key on your pc disconnect it from the internet. Step 2.2 run the Uninstaller and accept everything it does. Step 2.3 do yet another reboot and run a sistem cleaner like CCleaner and the Disk Defragmenter Now do the Step 3 run the installer.

If you are running ActiveSync 4.0 or later and personal firewall software on your personal computer, please add ActiveSync to the firewall program’s exception list.
(Firewall software, such as Sygate Personal Firewall, TrendMicro PC-cillin Internet Security 2005, Norton Personal Firewall, McAfee Personal Firewall, or Zone Alarm Security Suite may block synchronization.) Refer to the documentation that came with your firewall program to determine how to add ActiveSync 4.0 or later to the program’s exception list. To further troubleshoot a firewall application and enable ActiveSync 4.0 or later
No if you ask me, Norton 08 should be perfect,.... Vista bby itself is not all that secure.. its good to have additional antivirus program and Norton 08 is in no way less effective than other programs out there.
have no doubts at all, proceed onto instal Norton.. thats the rights thing you do
Try to restart the computer in safe mode or safe mode with networking. Go to control panel, add or remove programs (or programs and features if its vista), and try to remove norton antivirus completely. If that does not work, and you are in safe mode with networking, download the norton removal tool from the internet and run that to remove the norton antivirus completely. Your computer should be able to boot to the normal window, you can downlaod the norton antivirus latest version from the norton website or purchase the norton antivirus disc from any store. All the best.
i think your acer laptop comes with its own data protection s/w provided by acer , so it recommended to contact acer or norton because it is recommended to use only one security s/w at a time as they share the common system files for protection
