Hi...there,
You can saved even more repaired yourself. The problems on the backlight inverter power supply. Open it up and check all the capacitors, it look like a tiny battery cap on the side had writing on it. (Example 1000uf 16v ) if you are lucky you can spot it right away...with a bulged on top of each caps. If not, just replaced all of the caps... Good luck!

Hi,i have lg5000 42" when

Either one of the inverter boards has a failing capacitor on it, or the FL (backlight) tube is burning out.
in your case, the most likely suspect is the tube.
The easiest way to find out if it's the tube or the inverter board, is to plug each of the tubes into the others inverter. This isn;t possible on all models because of wire length, but in most cases it can be done.
If you have the same problem on the same side, it's the tube
If the problem moves to the other side, it's the inverter.

You can either look for failed caps on the inverter, or just replace the inverter - the former being much less expensive if it's just a capacitor or 2.

If it's the inverter, here's a video that might help you out in determining what capacitors have gone and how to replace them.

IF it's the backlight you'll have to get the make and model of the LCD panel itself, and then go to somewhere like www.lcdpanels.com to order the backlight (or the entire panel if you don't think you can replace the backlight without damaging the panel).

Turn monitor on picture stays on for about 30 sec to 1min then goes off.

If it is just the screen going dark then your backlight controller is faulty and needs repair.

Try another cable, or check the plug for bent pins. If they are all good, check that the monitor is set for VGA input (if it supports VGA and DVI) as it may be looking for a different input. Then replace the monitor. It's not common, but video processing circuitry can sometimes fail, and yours may have. New 17-inch LCD monitors are quite inexpensive now, so it would probably be more economical to replace this one than to try repairing it.

This is what inverter board looks like:

Look for bad caps also, more likely to need new inverter board, warning, you can have bad lamp assembly also.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

My computer screen went black and when i try to start it back up it goes to a fadish red tinted looking screen and then goes back out. It is a toshiba satalite A 105 S4094 system unit. Please reply

It's probably the inverter circuit that's gone bad, and isn't lighting up the backlight now. It's also possible the backlight itself is bad, but the inverter is a more common problem. It's also much easier to replace.

Replacing the inverter is something you can do yourself if you're careful and patient. Replacement inverters and how-to procedures are available online. Search using the model number of the computer, not the system unit part number.

If you're not comfortable trying a repair on your own, take this to a computer service shop. If it is the inverter, repair will probably cost around $100.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using Fixya!

Hi we have a ctx monitor PV720A that stays on for a couple of seconds then goes black

glenn659, possible cause is bad internal switch-mode-power-supply" failure or SMPS is detecting something wrong with lcd cold-cathode-fluorescent-tube backlighting circuit, (INVERTER) and it goes into SHUTDOWN mode to try and prevent a catastrophic failure from occuring. Glenn, visit youtube, search for video clips on LCD monitor disassembly and also also research BAD Capacitors or Swollen Capacitors and also the "WHY DO LCD MONITORS FAIL PREMATURELY" Certainly your's will be in the top two causes! Did you do the flashlight test with your monitor "on" and connected to a known good PC with the WIN-desktop screen showing. Even though screen is BLACK it might still show the desktop when you hold the light about 1" from screen. Some will, some won't depends on condition of the power supply. In any case get back to me with your plan of action you intend to take after viewing YOUTUBE stuff. Bye for now. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel@aol.com

Dark screen

Sounds like it is the backlight that has gone. New screens are a lot more reasonable cost option now and they tend to have the backlight incorporated into them. Replacing a backlight is not a simple procedure by any means. If you're not sure about changing components yourself then take it to a repair shop.

Picture gone from TV Model LE46M51B

I suspect that your backlight has gone out. If you shine a light on the screen can you see remnants of the picture that should be displaying? If so, it's definitely the backlight, and most likely the power inverter for the backlight. You can probably find a replacement inverter, but you may need a repair manual to install it. I'd recommend checking the warranty status first and sending it in for repair if you can.
