Question about Zanussi FJS1225W Front Load Washer
Hi my washer works fine it just wont take the fabric softener from the dispenser for a while now any ideas please thanks
Just had the same problem with a Zanussi JetSystem 1000 - fabric cconditioner was remaining in the drawer - and my wife reckoned the clothes didn't smell as nice!!!
I fixed this in about an hour and a half without any real problem - might be nice having someone bringing in the odd cuppa whilst you're working!!!
Firstly make sure the dispenser drawer is CLEAN - I spent a good half hour brushing it under running water in the sink - make sure it's 'really' clean and that there are no blockages. Remeber there's a small part over where the conditioner goes (has MAX on it) that lifts up. Also thoroughly clean the part of the machine where it slides into, this is not as easy - I found an old fashioned scrubbing brush and plenty of water worked well. Don't worry if dirty water goes into the machine - you'll be running it empty after the repair to check that all is ok...
Next step is to remove the top by unscrewing a couple of small bolts at the back, right at the top, one in each corner, just behind the top panel and slide the panel backwards and away from the machine.
Make sure the machine is NOT connected to the mains - remove the plug to be sure. Slowly turn the programming knob and you should see a plastic lever being moved as the programmer goes 'round. This plastic lever is near the front of the machine and angles 'round over the dispenser tray assembly. This turns a turbine-like plastic wheel (you can't see it as it's over the top of the dispenser tray, near the back). You'll know you're looking at the right thing as there are a, b, c, d markings around the outside and the wheel (from the top it looks like a plastic disc) has a little pointer. This moves 'round between the various letters as the programmer goes 'round. In my machine it sits half way between a and b when the machine is off. It is this that routes the water to the various compartments within the dispenser tray and if I remeember rightly it MUST point to 'd' to send water to the fabric conditioner tray. Turn the programmer knob slowly to check that this happens.
Whilst I was at it I removed this assembly and thoroughly cleaned it - it's a bit tricky but can be tackled by anyone with a bit of patience. Remove the plastic clip that holdds the plastic arm to the disc - be very careful as the wheel will partly drop into the dispenser tray - that's not a problem as you'll remove it later BUT there's a small spring underneath it that in my case flew through the air and took me ssome time to find. Try and see how this spring is fitted 'before' you strip this assembly, it's placed so that the wheel is held lightly anticlockwise. There's a bit of looseness in this assembly and if the spring was not there (or had come loose) the wheel might not come 'round enough to direct water into the fabric conditioner tray. When you have the clip and spring safely put away you can move the arm - note that it has a fork shape which connects it to the wheel. Let the wheel drop into the tray - you may have to turn it 'round a bit from inside but it should drop completely and you can give it a good clean under the tap. BEFORE you remove the wheel look carefully at it's top - the bit that you removed the clip from so you'll remember how to position it when you reassemble.
Putting the above bits back together is a straight reversal - ideally you need about 4 or 5 hands but you 'can' manage it with two - it's a bit fiddly but not difficult.
Incidentally the problem with my machine was that the spring had moved - and was just sitting loosely doing nothing - instead of holding the wheel in the most anticlockwise position - bearing in mind where the programmer had set the linkage at any given time.
Reading thru this quickly it all sounds a bit complicated but looking at the machine it 'should' all make sense.
We've just done a wash - and at the end I checked - and the fabric conditioner tray is empty!!!
Mail me if you get lucky!

Could it be a blockage? Try pulling the dispenser drawer out, then dismantle the drawer and give the parts a good wash in a sink. Run water through any holes to clear them of hardened softener.

Tips for a great answer:
Hello - There are several things that could cause the fabric softener to not dispense into the washer. Are you sure the liquid in the dispenser after the wash is fabric softener? If it is fabric softener, the solenoid that lets the water into the dispenser is not working. This solenoid is located on the back of the dispenser. It only gets voltage during the dispense time and fills the fabric softener dispenser with water. The fabric softener dispenser fills while the washer is filling for the rinse cycle.
When the washer begins to fill for the rinse cycle, the fabric softener solenoid is energized and water flows into the fabric softener dispenser cup. When the cup is full the water siphons out and softener and water flow into the tub.
If the liquid in the fabric softener dispenser is pure softener you may need a technician to diagnose and repair the problem. The voltage will have to be tested to the softener solenoid and a volt meter is required.
If the liquid in the fabric softener dispenser is water you probably need to clean the dispenser cup. **** will build up in the siphon tube and stop the liquid from going into the washer tub. The incoming water will dilute the softener and overflow the dispenser cup and run into the tub. The instructions for cleaning the dispenser should be located on page 43 of the use and care guide that came with the washer.
If you don't have the use and care guide these instructions will help. Open the dispenser until it stops. In the left rear corner of the dispenser, there is a release that is labeled push. Press down on the push area and you can slide the dispenser drawer out.
Remove the insert from the bleach and fabric softener compartments. Clean the bottom of the insert and the bleach and fabric softener compartments. Reinstall the insert and put the drawer back inside the washer.
To test the siphon action slowly pour water into the fabric softener compartment. When the water level goes above the maximum line stop pouring. The water should all drain out.
Hope this information proves to be helpful however if it is ineffective please contact a professional to move forward accurately.
