Question about Palm i705 Handheld

Open Question

Can't get new i705 to HotSync

I had a Palm V and recently rec'd a "used" i705. I uninstalled and deleted all old Palm software/data files and downloaded/installed new Palm Desktop software (HotSync Mgr 4.1.0). Created a new user. Cleared all info on i705 and am unable to get HotSync to work. I am connected via USB port (verified good). When I right click on the icon in my tray it shows "Local USB", but setup/Local tab shows Serial: COM1. When I attempt to HotSync via cradle, I receive the following message: "The connection between your handheld computer and desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again." I run XP Home, SP1. Help, please?

hi, on ur palm tap on home , u would see hotsync icon tap on that , on the hotsync page , u would see ur name on top or just welcome , make sure u see direct serial on the same page , tap on the top left corner where it says hotsync in words , in the drop down , tap on lan sync prefs , make sure local hotsync is darker in shade. on the pc make sure u see the hotsync manager at the bottom right corner , if not , click on start , click on all programs , choose palm desktop , inside that u would see hotsync manager , left double click on that , if it doesnt appear at the bottom right corner , try 4times , then if it still persists , restart the pc and try again. Once u see the hotsync manager at the bottom right corner , right click on that , left click on setup , left click on local , choose a different com port , reduce the speed to 9600 , click on ok restart ur pc and try hotsyncin , if it doesnt work try the previous step again and do not forget to restart ur pc , and then perform a hs , it will work .... SOURCE: Cannot establish connection with desktop.

My problem was resolved by uninstalling Palm Desktop, then then reinstalling it. First, I had to make a copy of my Palm folder to make sure nothing was lost. Then uninstall Palm Desktop, reinstall it off the CD, and synch. And because I use Chapura Pocket Mirror XT as the interface, I had to reinstall that as well and then resynch. While talking with the Palm representative cost money and was time consuming, it was ultimately the best option. It also left me with duplicate entries which I had to clean up, but at least I'm back to synching again.

SOURCE: Installed software on new laptop & can't hotsync

Yes, just go to the windows website and have it check your system for any updates. It will check your system and see what updates you need. I'll be honest with you, vista can be a pain in the backside but it also can be great and I'm sure will be great once they work all the bugs out.

Welcome to Fixya

Sounds like the problem is the LCd screen already. Have you tried doing a hard reset to your palm? The data in your palm can only be transferred using Hotsync. Try uninstall/install the software again to the new computer. May i know the Windows OS of the new computer and what is the model of your Palm.

Thank you for using FIxya!

Can't hotsync replacement t5 ; I dropped my working T5 and have not been able to hot sync my backup unit.

If the new one won't pick up your old files you need to go onto the desktop app and export the data. then create a new id on the new palm. It should now hotsync with the new blank id. Now go back to the desktop and import the files from the other id. Hotsync again and you should have them on your palm.

Are you syncing the new device to the same username in Palm Desktop as an older device?
If you are, this will cause problems on the new device. When you sync the device, it saves the device settings, 3rd party apps, preferences, etc. in the backup folder in the username folder on the PC. When

you sync the new device it copies the contents of the backup folder for the old device to the new device. This will cause corruption in the settings for the new device thus causing erratic behavior of the new device.

Looks like you may need to hard reset your device and rename your backup folder

Go to http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887 and follow the directions to do a hard reset. Next before you hotsync your data back over you will need to rename your backup folder, to do that go here;

XP
C:\program files\palm or palm one\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
folder to backup.old

Vista
Start-->documents\Palm OS Desktop\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
folder to backup.old

Then hotsync to your current hotsync name and all your contacts, calendar,
tasks, and memos will come back over.

Show file extensions for XP or Vista

XP
If you can not view file extensions on your PC I would like you to open a
folder go to Tools-->Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.

Vista
Open control Panel go to Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.

Hi----- hope this works--- you might need new update software.
  1. Download Palm Software installer (.dmg file)
  2. Ensure you are logged in to your Macintosh as a user with Admin privileges.
  3. Double-click on the PalmSoftware installer file.
  4. Enter your Administrator password when prompted.
  5. Install or renstall Palm Desktop. Note: There is no uninstaller included.
What is this software? This software lets you sync your Palm device with your computer, so your info is backed up and easily editable on your computer.
Keep your information up to date wherever you are. When you sync, any changes you've made to Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Memos are automatically added to your computer or your Palm device.
Palm Desktop is the desktop personal information manager. HotSync Manager controls synchronization. Both are included in a single download on this page.
If you sync with Microsoft Outlook or Entourage, you still should install this software.

MissingSync replaced Hotsync; I want it reversed

I think you are being a little rash by jumping to get rid of it without even looking at information like this. But if you are determined to switch back to Palm Hotsync, I would completely uninstall TMS (it has an uninstaller, and there are also instructions on the Mark/Space site), delete your current install of Palm Desktop (set your User Data file aside first), and then reinstall Palm Desktop as root and restore your data file. There might be an easier way if you could locate the disabled conduits, such as by using the Find command (could they possibly be in /Library/Application Support/Palm Hotsync/Disabled Conduits/ by any chance?), but if you don't know what you're doing, and it kind of seems like you don't, I would probably recommend just starting fresh.

How do I handle error 0x80040702 Failed to load dll:HSAPI

Old version of Palm Desktop There appears to be a few versions of older Palm Desktop that the installer has problems overwriting. Did you have a Treo 300 or an older device perchance? A solution from Brighthand forums: "Error Number: 0x80040702 Description: Failed to load dll: HSAPI The problem appeared to be that I still had the older Palm desktop software (version 3.01) from my Palm V on my computer. Uninstalling the old software solved my problem. While this may be a bit obvious, I was surprised that the Treo 650 installation instructions had a section on upgrading from another palm device, but failed to mention that you need to uninstall the old software. " One reason that you run into this problem may be that you dont have sufficient rights to make registry changes on your PC (including one installer removing and older installation). Check with your IT Admin to ensure you can do what you are trying to do.
