I have solved the "disk read error". Do you have a copy of partition magic? If so, then boot from it and tell me what error it gives you. If it's error #108, then resize the disk with Acronis Disk Director or the GNU Parted LiveCD. The latest is 0.4.1-2, but it is quite stable.

Resize each partition to be about 32 MB smaller, which should correct the boundary errors it had.

The hard disk drive has failed and needs replacement. If this system is under warranty, contact HP

If not, then you can buy a replacement HDD from retailers like NewEgg.COM

I checked the HP spare parts page, their prices are quite high. Here is an example of a good value:

Problem with a disk read error

There are a couple of possibilities.

1. The hard drive is defective.

2. The operating system is corrupt.

The easiest way to test this is to run the restore cd that came with the computer to reload Windows.

If you get this error while running the restore cd then you will need to get a new hard drive.
