I have installed the CE 3.0 upgrade ROM F1793 in my 620LX. I backed up all data before the upgrade, but after doing the upgrade and restoring my data, my contacts, tasks, and appointments (calendar) data is not present. The Tasks and contacts apps do seem to know about the filters/categories I had defined, but the detail data does not appear...

i think u have tried to upgrade thru custom rom bcoz this pda came with WM 6 only so u tried to upgrade to 6.1 thru custom rom procedure and it seems like something went wrong and u get a boot loader screen tri color with code written SPL 1.XXX on it dont worry i can help u in this go step by step as soon as ur problem is resolved leave other step
first try this
hard rest factory default settings = when ur set is switched off press both buttons call and end key and then press power button on upside of pda for like 5 sec screen will appear asking to format all data take out ur card if u dont want to format that now confirm by pressing the centre action button in 4 side joystick and go
if ur pda boot normally after reset procedure it will take some time to boot dont panic if it is ok then good luck
u cannot upgrade storage memory that is called RAM and ROM but u can always upgrade ur Storage card that is used for the storage of programs and files I understand ur problem u are feeling short of memory in Program and storage that RAM and ROM u cannot upgrade but u can do something about it i can help u in this
option 1 u can always reset the device for a new start and then try installing all ur programs to ur memory card when it ask for location where to install select storage card there and ur ROM will not be used to store those programs plus ur device will be fast in performance. always
1.store programs in storage card 2.never install in ROM or ur device memory 3.Always close programs from the Task Manager a small arrow up on right side of screen select all programs and close them after u are done with them u will never be short of RAM. 4. Set ur History and cache folder of ur browser IE or OPERA to Storage card if u cant find the link to do this just google SKTOOLS for Windows Mobile download and install this software will let u configure where to keep ur history and cache files
5.When u recieve files from bluetooth they by default comes in the Device/MyDocuments folder and this will use ur device storage which is limited offcourse so u can google OBEX INBOX install and set the folder of recieving files thru bluetooth to memory card directly this is a very imp tool u will never find it easily i bet.
u can get the rom i used here: http://rapidshare.com/files/11304780...WE_RUS_WM6.rar
The procedure is simple... 1. Format a memory card (micro sd) using FAT 16, use a card of 512 mb or less and atleast 64 mb since JAMA duznt support 1 Gb cards....
2. Extract the contents of the above mentioned rom to the memory card
3. Remove the simcard, insert the memory card back and then insert the battery
4. It will automatically upgrade, it will take sometime so relax
MAKE SURE TO BACKUP ANY IMPORTANT DATA!
and yes wm6 works and feels far better than the preinstalled wm5 so go ahead!
Are yous sure it is running CE.NET 4.2? I dont think that the HPC 2000 version can effectively use the USB host. If it is HPC 2000 after all, upgrade the ROM. Try http://hpcmonex.net/nec900/roms2.html to upgrade your ROM.
hi vjvinayak, according to maklean, may be it not be possible to upgrade firmware by ourselves. But, damnly it is not necessary to buy 3rd party flashers because it can be done by ourselves easily also. Process for it is : 1) if u want to save ur data, then backup it 1st in ur MMC. 2) turn off the phone. 3) press and hold 3 buttons ( green dial button + * + 3 keypad ) at once and turn on the phone. 4) hold those buttons until formatting screen appears. 5) when it is completed, phone is to be restarted. 6) and my work is finished. =============================================== I guarantee u that this method will flash ur phone rom. If u like this method, send me feedback. I will help u in other cases also. I have a large database of codes or tricks to use in mobile phones. Sajan mine id is email@example.com & firstname.lastname@example.org.
OK your phone is most probable stuck in bootloader mode and needs to accept a USB connection with the correct ROM image to be reprogrammed. You will see on the screen that there stands Bootloader/Serial if you look carefully. Check if you can see this text. Try a master reset on the phone as per rom installation instruction. (Top mennu buttons and reset simultaniously). Let me know there are more ways to solve the problem.
My first opinion would refer to the operating system stored in ROM. Maybe you have a ROM data corruption and you may need to upgrade/reinstall the OS and other files in ROM.
As you can't make a connection with active sync (try it however) you will need to have the ROM updated via a specially formated SD card. This is risky to do it yourself as it involves hex editing and raw formating a SD card. If something is done wrong the process fails and the PDA could get damaged. Please go to a service center to have it fixed by them. It is the most safest way.
If you however manage in some way to make an active sync connection with you pda (either a partnership or guest connection) you can try to upgrade the ROM yourself using the patch provided by Dell (this is a safe way).
Here is a link to download a ROM installation file (english version, also it is Windows Mobile 5, it will also upgrade your operating system)
(this is an official upgrade from Dell, please follow the instruction in the program).

Good luck !
I don't think that's possible as unlike the newer machines the 54x series has the OS embedded in ROM.
Even so, I own a 568 but notice that there are no plans to provide an upgrade to PPC 2003 so we'll both have to get Ipaqs :-(
