same problem here, sound but no video... with occasional lines on the screen, it's not an issue with the tv's & the cords are good.
i've even tried remembering where everything is in the dashboard just
so I can try 2 get into the display settings blind.

It's a fairly new 360 & it's in an not clustered or crowded at all &
there were no signs of picture trouble beforehand.
Any useful tips would be nice. Don't bother leaving **** about
wet towel tricks or obvious "turn on the tv" remarks.

There's a youtube video saying the towel trick that
people use on the "Red Rings of Death" also works on the
xbox 360 audio/no video problem.
& here's another video of the towel trick itself...

Funny that I bring up the towel trick after what I said.
I haven't confirmed it yet. I'm still trying 2 get more info...

  • jman1c1347 Sep 04, 2008

I did the towel thing & it worked decently...
I only had it wrapped in the towel for 5 minutes
because my 360 actually shut off automatically after that long.

I let it cool for 15 minutes & sure enough when I hooked the
a/v cords back on and turned it on, it started up with no problem.
After about an hour and a half of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 there were small color issues but nothing crazy & I'm keeping it on to see how it reacts to being on for a few hours maybe even a little throughout the night. Then I'll of course see how it reacts to being off for a while and being cool again to see if it will start up fine.

People can say what they want about the method, but the bottom line is...I'm playing the 360 right now... I'll let ya' know how things progress...

I had 2 do it again 2day. Heated it for not even 5 minutes
& then I hooked it up & turned it on after about 1 minute & it worked again.

It might be more frequently required for me since it only heats for 5 minutes. It's worth it in my opinion. It's not like there's a lose in the situation anyway. Warranties most likely don't cover anything that's not RROD so worse case scenario, the 360 actually gets the red rings on it's own & that's under warranty anyway.

It's the only thing that can be done "right now" that doesn't cost
money or even that much time for that matter. & if you're sending it in anyway then there's no loss in doing it.

Still working & with less "towel tricks" even...

  • jman1c1347 Sep 10, 2008

Still working. Every1 else has the same "solution"
pay this or pay that or some obvious stuff like plug in
this cord. I'm playing my 360 now. Until it stops working I'm
going 2 stick with the towel trick.

People can whine & say that it's hurting the 360 as if
it matters. If you're going 2 send it in eventually then
the towel trick isn't hurting anything.

People can put up their so called "solutions" but mine
is the only one that is a win-win & doesn't cost anything
    except 15 minutes & a towel.

I plug all the right stuff in but its not coming on the screen...i have i fixed to video and everything

Assuming you plugged in everything correctly, (power, yellow white and red) and have set the TV to the proper channel/input, there are only a few other possibilities:

1. Video cord may be bad (unlikely)
2. Xbox 360 may have some sort of hardware problem (would have to ship it in for repairs if it does)
3. TV won't support it. To check that, all you have to do is try it on a different TV.

Oh and something else I remembered. On the end of the video cord that goes into the Xbox, there's a little switch on the side of it. Make sure you have it set appropriately

Good Luck :)

My xbox 360 turns on, has sound but does not display a picture and it is on the correct channel.

Good, you check all the video out / in and tv setting is right .
The problem is, under the G.P.U. there's a hot spot , and it just so happens
to be adjacent to the video buffer out connection , which has broken free from the main board.
No red lights , everything sounds good but no picture . solution X clamp mode ,done right of course.
will reestablish the video and prevent additional erreor . if you have any questions fell free to email me

My xbox 360 no picture or sound

on your AV cable there is a small switch make sure that the switch is positioned to the correct tab such as if your using component (ypbpr green blue red) then have the switch set for that and if you are using composit (rca yellow) then have it set for that one. this sounds more likely like its positioned wrong.

Hold your ps3 power button. It will scroll to different video settings. I believe there are 3 different video settings. I believe each beep is a different video setting

No picture or sound

Hello. There are a few causes for this. I will list acouple solutions for you.

1. Reset the Video Output Settings. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light --> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings. Once you turn it back on, it should work fine.
2. Make sure the TV is on the correct seting. i.e. Video 1, Video 2, etc.

3. If option 1 does not work call Sony because the video out chip has blown or come unsoldered.

I hope this helps. Good luck to you.

Cannot view picture or game for my xbox 360

Make sure you are using the correct video settings. Try using the basic red white yellow cords and see if that helps. Also make sure you have switched between HD and regular video. there is a switch on the video cable connector that plugs into the xbox.

Picture goes to a lime green fuzz and then no piture or sound!

which AV connection are you using? HDMI or the cable supplied with the PS3, If using HDMI, you have to set the PS3 visual settings to HDMI, to do this, use the cable supplied with the PS3, and have the HDMI cable plugged in. Then while using the cables supplied with the PS3, switch the settings over to HDMI, then change the TV's input selector to your HDMI and confirm the settings changes. Hope it helps take care
