I have a brand new Belkin N Wireless Router. I wired it to a modem that works otherwise perfectly fine (comcast cable). Alas - the Belkin shows a yellow light in the Modem indicator, and indeed - the router doesn't work.

Re: Belkin N Wireless Router doesn't connect to Modem
If router is brand new you should have a set up disk. the set up disk will walk you through it or you might log onto Belkin site to see a walk through set up. If you can access internet from modem to router to internet. That means router is functioning properly. To go completely wireless you will need to secure your network and setup your access codes. Definitely use the setup disk to do this. A unsecured wireless network is a nightmare waiting to happen. Good luck

I think there is no need to replace the ADSL2+ Router. Belkin is fine and should work well in combination with the D-Link Router and you would get the downlink data rate up to 300Mbps. I recommended that you use Belkin Router as ADSL Modem and Dlink to provide wireless access. (Instead of buying ADSL Modem) So, all you have to do is : - -Turn-off wireless signal of the Belkin modem. -Connect the Dlink Router to the Modem (Belkin) through CAT6 Cable. -Configure the Dlink Router, Secure it and Enjoy 300Mbps Data Rate.
(In this way your Belkin will serve as ADSL Modem and Dlink would be the wireless router)
Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required. Hope it helps! Good Luck! CreativeTECH
I have a similar problem. The common denominator seems to be the SB5101. I have a brand new Belkin Surf 300N, same issue. The modem will not give DHCP to the router. I can connect fine via ethernet to the modem directly.
This modem seems to be a dinosaur.
Connect that one port to your Belkin WAN (Internet)connector (Yellow Port). The other ports go to other computers, to their Broadband RJ45 connectors.
Here's from the manual:
1. Unplug your existing modem’s power supply.
Find the cable connecting your modem and computer.
Unplug it from the modem and plug it into the gray port
on the Belkin Router.
If you are replacing an existing router, find the cable
connecting the computer and old router. Disconnect it from
the old router and plug it into the gray port on the new router
2. Connect the new cable (provided in the box) to the yellow
port on the Router. Plug the other end into the modem.

3. Plug in your modem’s power supply. Wait 60 seconds for the
modem to start up.
Plug the Router’s power supply into a wall outlet, and the
other end into the black port on the Belkin Router.
As the Router wakes up, lights will come on; recheck your
connections if the “power” and one of the “wired” lights
are not lit up in green after 20 seconds.
4. Locate the CD in this guide and insert it into your computer
The Setup Assistant should appear automatically.
If it doesn’t, open the CD in My Computer (Windows®)
or the Finder (Mac OS® X) and double-click on the
“Setup Assistant” icon
i just have a question, do you have an internet connection when your computer connected to your modem(the device provided by your Internet Service Provider)? Possible that the Belkin not working is that maybe you don't have internet from ypur ISP.
I suggest you to connect your computer first to the modem, turn off the pc and afterwards the modem, after 2 minutes, turn on the modem first, when all lights stable, turn on the pc and check if you can go online. If not, better contact your ISP first for them to check the connection. If everything working fine with your ISP. Reply to this post again and provide the following information.
Brand of the Modem?
Brand of the Belkin Router?
Type of Connection you have form ISP, DSL or CABLE?
If DSL, please make sure that you have a username and password from your ISP?
How many computers do you have?
What is the Windows Version your using or the Operating System?
If you are connected straight from the modem, your router will not have internet access, only if your modem is connected to the router you will be able to go online wireless. connect your modem to the router nad router to the desktop, so that you can access both wired and wireless connection
As you ave the modem in bridge mode and also it works ine with wired connection just follow the instruction below for wireless
1.Login in to the router - > wireless settings
2.Configure your wireless using SSID and WEP and save settings
3.Laptop : Using windows wireless client configure the client using the same SSID ,WEP as configured in the router(view available wireless network in wireless properties)
(by default OEM wirelesss client takes over the wireless configuration in branded pc.to disable it and use windows wireless client..control panel ->administrative tools -> services -> enabl2 wireless zero configuration)
14.after all configuration shut the desktop, laptop, router, mdm and pwr them in seq..first modem and then router and then your desktop or laptop
Try the manual method.connect router to pc with ethernet cable
1.logon to 192.168.0.1
2.Connection type ; PPPOE
3.type in your username@ISp and pass
5.Configure wireless setting(SSID,Wep)
