Burning plastic smell, colours way off, picture way off & skewed

thats called ghosting its usually down to your tv ariel try putting your ariel on a mast for a better clear reception.

Sounds like a short circuit. Does anything still work on the camera?

you need to take rear cover off to inspect whats happened ..u will see or smell what gone wrong if done asap... UNPLUG FIRST ....

I would unplug it right away, yes, there may be something burning inside. You need to open it up and look around inside.

I am going to post some photos here for you. If you went into the customer menu and tried to adjust convergence and red and blue would move but green is skewed--you have a convergence problem.

Look at the photos and tell me if any look ANYTHING like your trouble. If you have a convergence problem with this model I HAVE START TO FINISH, STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS I CAN GIVE YOU.

This is a model first sold in 2000---if convergence is skewed and will not align in the customer menu:

It uses two of the STK-392-110 convergence chips--I suspect if you smelled something that when the chips went bad one or more of the protection resistors around them toasted--burned to protect the set from the short.


Both chips and any bad resistors need to be located and replaced--parts cost On Ebay would be less than 30 dollars--I can tell you the best seller there.

If you or someone you know can do the repair you can save the set and a lot of money--Most shops are going to charge at least 300 for this kind of repair.

It should be able to be fixed right in your home--I know as I have repaired hundreds of sets with this problem.

Well that pop had something to do with the power components inside the TV frying. I would have to say there is nothing you can do to repair it as its dangerous to work on such things.
I wouln't waste my time bringing it to a repair shop they will probably tell you to just buy a new one.

Convergence IC's are busted.....google it. You'll find loads of solutions!

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.

The picture tube of the tv has 3 color in CRT Red, Green, Blue. The red cathodeof tv set has no function, its either the resistor become higt resistance, that why u need a repairman to replace it.
