Please provide information on how to repair the problem - taking it to a service center not the kind of advice I expected when I paid for this service.

  • bobcampbell Sep 01, 2008

Your advice to remove then restore the battery and memory card did not help. This is apparently a mechanical problem in which the zoom lens is off the track and I believe I'll need to open the case to fix the problem. Instructions on how to do that would be appreciated.

  • bobcampbell Sep 01, 2008

Get what replaced - the camera or the gear? And where would I take it for repair?

  • bobcampbell Sep 01, 2008

The first response to the problem said it was a minor problem and should be taken in for repair - the latest response says the problem cannot be repaired - this seems like a contradiction to me. So far none of the responses have been particularly helpful and I am still waiting for a response to my last comment...

  • bobcampbell Sep 01, 2008

Please tell me how to disassemble the camera and repair the problem.

  • bobcampbell Sep 01, 2008

What do you mean by "take care of plastic locks internally" ?

  • bobcampbell Sep 01, 2008

Can anyone give me more specific procedures to effect a repair? If the only solution that can be offered is to bring it into a service center I certainly don't need FixYa!

Can cause inadvertant power up w/lens blocked. ... sensor of 7.2 megapixels makes it possible to get good enlargements up to 8 x 10, or even larger.

If your camera is still under warranty, the best thing you can do is to take it to the nearest official Casio repair shop and Casio Digital Cameras should fix it for free.

If your camera is out of warranty, or if Casio refuses to repair it for free (happens sometimes if for example they suspect the camera has not been treated properly) you can try some of the methods listed here to repair it yourself. These simple methods have helped a lot of people fix their cameras.

Before trying any of the suggestions, make sure your Casio Digital Cameras has fresh batteries and it is in recording mode.

1) Remove the batteries from the camera, wait for a couple of minutes, then put them back in and turn the camera on.

2) Try compressed air. With a fine tip blow off gun and dry compressed air (20 lbs) set the tip between the lens turret and the camera body and turn on the air while moving the tip around the lens. It should remove all dust and sand. Turn the camera on and it should function fine.

3) Another method is to tap the padded USB cover part on a hard surface, for example, a desk. It sounds so simple, but very often in works.

4) Try forcing the camera lens:

Turn off the camera. Place it on the back with the lens facing up and take a look at the spacing between the lens and the lens housing. If you notice that the gap is not even all the way around the lens, the problem should be easy to fix. This type of a problem usually occurs if the camera was dropped while the lens was extended.

Simply - VERY GENTLY - press down the lens on the side where the gap is the biggest. You should hear a "click" as it pops back into place. Try powering the camera back on.

If the lens doesn't extend at all or it extends, and then retracts again, do the following. Turn the camera off. Take the camera in one hand and with the other gently take one part of the lens and gently move it round in a circular movement. Do so with both sections of the lens. You will hear a "click" as it pops back in place. Power the camera on.

Another version of this fix would be to pull and twist on the largest ring of the lens while turning the camera on. Listen for a "click". If at first the focus seems to be off, turn the camera on and off and take lots of pictures, close ups and distance. Focus should slowly start improving.

5) If that doesn't work, there is an online guide for dismantling Casio Digital Cameras and fixing the E18 error. (NOTE: Try this only if your camera is no longer under warranty!) It is a great sample guide with pictures and it can be found here.

There are 2 other guides, one Bulgarian and one Estonian with the take apart procedure for Canon cameras. They are not in english but have a lot of pictures which help with the process.

- Bulgarian guide
- Estonian guide

Hope this may help;

Regards,

In that case you might need a service technician who can help you open the device and fix some difficulties. it may cause a lot of problem if you attempt to fix it on your own.

Chances are you stripped the little gear inside. your best bet is to get it replced either warrenty or buy a new one. it cannot be repaired.

as 9i stated before the gear inside the slides the lens is stripped you can not repair this. and chances are if you took it to a repair shop they would not have the part. i would be remiss in telleng you that there is an easy fix to this it is my suggestiojn that either you have it replaced under warrenty if it still is or buy a new one. trying to repair it yourself will only add to the problem. I know this is not what you expexted or wanted to hear but it is the right answer to your question. good luck.

you can once try switching over to 2500 mAh Nickel Metal Hydride
rechargeable batteries. you will see a difference.Digital cameras with
zoom lens need more power than what can be supplied by ordinary
    batteries..

the gears inside the camera unit are to be serviced and the lens has to be realligned.it will not cost u more then a service charge to get it done.as if u with out the technical knowledge try to do and if the lens get cracked.as it is made up of very very thin glass.it will cost you more to repair it.still open the screws from the bach and top of the body.also see for the hidden screws behind the stickers.to make it easily opened.

"Lens error" cant figure out why?

There is a good chance that the lens on the camera is dead. I have a Casio Exilim EX-V7 that had a similar error before shutting off. Sent it in to Casio and the told me I needed a new lens for about $150. I hope you don't need to go through the same thing as me. good luck.
