Question about Whirlpool 25.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with In-Door-Ice Dispensing System
The motor makes a loud, ragged hum the whole time is is on--which is an awful not of the time. Anyone trying to hold a conversation in the kitchen in the kitchen would have to raise their voice. Must close the door to my adjoining bedroom-study to sleep, rest, think, study--you name it. I'm renting here and this fridge is making me wish I'd never signed the lease. If anything can be done, please let me know. By the way, I see that this model is a "type 3" and uses more energy (386 kwh) than other models. Is this correct?

If you look at the rear wall inside the freezer compartment down low and find a bunch of frost on that wall, you have an automatic defrost system failure. The most likely part that has failed is the defrost thermostat. It is located on the top of the freezer coil, clipped onto a piece of tubing. It will have 2 wires coming out of it and it is about the diameter of a quarter and about 3/4" tall. To test this part you would need a test meter and enough skill to check if the contacts are closed when the thermostat is frozen withing the specifications stated on the thermostat. I believe yours would close at 25 degrees F and opens at 47 degrees F. Part # 5303918214
I hope this helps you. supertechks

When things like this happen I usually replace the main electronic circuit board which would control the motor operation timing, etc.

A figure of 385 Kw/h per year is listed. This is a very inexact figure and depends on many variables such your climate, position of the unit and the frequency with which it is opened. I would take it that the figure stated would be an average consumption and only useful as a guideline.
