I have the same problem.  I am NOT opening it during the cycle.  It finishes and the clothes are not dry.  Usually with jeans or towels.  The filter is clean.  I usually have to start it over 2 or 3 times.

In order to help you, you'll need to provide some additional information. You say that the dryer is not drying but when you open the door mid cycle, are you getting hot air in the tub? If you are , then you should check your vent system for obstructuions.. If it is NOT hot then you may one of several things wrong with your dryer. It could be that the igniter is not sparking to produce a flame for your heat or one of your thermal heat senors tripped and needs to be manually reset. You could have an issue with a non-resettable fuse, your gas inlet control is malfunctioning oryou do not have gas coming in. These are several areas ( not all of them) that could cause your dryer to not strike a flame . Also.. the blower may not be moving air or is bound up. I am not sure how much troubleshooting you want to take on yourself but these are the main issues, also: here in aexcerpt from the manufacturers site regarding excess dry times..
When clothes are not dried well even after a regular cycle, try selecting a higher dry level such as Very Dry or More Dry, or try selecting Time Dry with a reasonable drying time. Also check to see that the exhaustion duct is not clogged. Refer to the installation manual of the exhaust vent. When there is a clog in the filter, it may not dry as efficiently, causing longer drying time-which can cause damage to the unit. Here is a link to the mfrs web site and you can get the user manual here.. http://us.lgservice.com/index_b2c.jsp Hope this helps..
Lastly, In all probability the venting system is restricting air flow and that may be the solution.. check the filter and make sure your vent ( including the part that opens to the outside) is not clogged... Good luck..

Rubber gasket removal LG Tromm front loader

We found there is three small holes on the seal right inside the door, check to see if they are clogged with soap scum and clean them out. Run a cycle of hot water and bleach. Then, after each use, leave the door open and let it air dry and this has seem to work.

LG TROMM DRYER DLE5977 Burning Smell

It is a POS dryer, we have the same one. My suggestion get another dryer. We vacuumed it all out (don't you have a problem with the lint catcher?) Then it started loud pounding noise, which a lot of people seem to have the same problem, then our sensor went out and we had to dry the clothes 5-10 x's...now crack in stainless steel drum and is chewing up all our expensive clothes!
